Doodad Farm

Doodad Farm Doodad Farm is dedicated to connecting musicians with music lovers and building community. Here you can feel the music, not just hear it.

Doodad Farm provides a place for our community to experience art and music in a deeply personal way. It is our belief that modern society has created artificial barriers between those who create art and those who experience it, and we seek to reverse that trend. When people come to Doodad Farm for the first time, they immediately recognize that something is different, that this is no ordinary venue. What they’re feeling is the love that was built into this place by volunteers, who all pitched in to make Doodad Farm happen just because they believed in the idea of it. We are not here to make a profit – we’re here to help dedicated artists bring their art to people who appreciate it, and to help those artists support themselves. We never charge for admission, because we feel that everyone should have access to art, regardless of income. We do ask for donations, of which every cent always goes to the performers. Most know Doodad Farm as a concert venue, but we’re here to support community art in every way. If you need a space for a non-profit event, like music instruction, band practice, jamming, etc., just ask and we’ll try our best to provide the space and schedule you need. If you’re doing good work, then we want to support you. We’ve worked hard to build this place, and the more it can be used for the good of the community, the better. All we ask is that you leave the place the way you found it. Doodad Farm pays its bills by renting the space out for weddings, parties, reunions and retreats. Please keep us in mind as a resource for such events. We’re only one minute from I-40 and super easy to access from anywhere in central/Piedmont North Carolina. We’re always looking for support from the community we serve. If you would like to volunteer to help with an event, or participate in one of our work days, please contact us. We often have use for building materials and landscaping materials, too. Sorry, but because we have relatively few shows a year, we can't respond to every solicitation for booking. We generally approach bands ourselves and offer them shows here. If you're interested in seeing how a bunch of energetic volunteers turned an old log tobacco barn into a very cool music venue, see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY-y3kDOTOg&feature=g-upl

We just received word from The Barefoot Movement that they will be bringing their entire four-piece band for the show here at Doodad Farm this Friday night (9/11) at 7pm. They often play as a duo or trio, so we weren't sure about the lineup until just now. This means that we'll get to experience the full force of this dynamic, innovative band on their first visit to our stage.

Show details in the first comment below. As always, our shows are free to the public, though we hope that you'll generously contribute to the performers.

This Thursday (8/27) at 7pm is when songwriters gather here at Doodad Farm to listen to each other’s musical creations. Weather permitting, will be outside near the stage; otherwise will gather in the house. Everyone will have the chance to play their own song, but nobody will be forced to do so.

Please bring any beverages or snacks you’d like for an evening of song sharing, discussion and laughter. All are welcome, even those who just want to listen.
