This photo shows steel ceiling trusses being delivered during the construction of the Natural Science Center of Greensboro's $3 million expansion project in the late 1980s.

When the addition opened in 1990, it included the Pendulum and its lobby, the Great Hall exhibit space, Health Quest, Adventure Theaters, the Dino Gallery, and the lower level.

At the 1987 groundbreaking ceremony, the shovel used to break ground was the same one that had been used 30 years earlier for the Junior Museum of Greensboro's groundbreaking in 1957.

On Tuesday, June 2, we will receive another steel delivery between 7:15 and 8:30 am.

During that time, traffic on Lawndale between Orman Road and our driveway may be temporarily stopped in both directions for up to 10 minutes at a time to allow delivery trucks to enter the construction site safely.

Thanks for your patience during this time!

Starry Safari will again be clouded out tonight. Let’s hope June will give us clearer Friday evenings! 🌌🔭

Until then, here’s an image one of our scopes recently captured of a Barred Spiral Galaxy, very similar to our own Milky Way, whose light took 30 million years to travel here!

All hail His Royal Highness, King of the GSC! 👑

Tai, our red panda, celebrated his 14th birthday on May 21, and our animal care team made sure the occasion was fit for royalty. To celebrate, they prepared a special birthday treat made from leaf-eater biscuits, bamboo leaves, and grapes.

Tai has been a favorite among guests and staff for years, and we’re grateful to celebrate another trip around the sun with him. Join us in wishing him a happy 14th birthday 💙

Yesterday was World Otter Day, and we’re lucky to care for three Asian small-clawed otters here at the GSC: Theo, Sotong, and Jelly 🦦💙

Asian small-clawed otters are the smallest otter species and are native to wetlands, rivers, and mangroves throughout South and Southeast Asia. Their sensitive paws help them search for food like mussels, crabs, snails, and other small aquatic animals.

The species is currently listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss.

Next time you’re in the aquarium, come say hi to Theo, Sotong, and Jelly!
