The arts stimulate the learning environment, lead to improved test scores, and lower dropout rates. The arts also develop critical thinking, social and motivational skills. The N.C. Arts Council’s educational programs include Poetry Out Loud, a national program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation that encourages students to learn about great poetry through recitation and performance.

Tomorrow is the big day! Our students Anthony Costello and Owusu Takyi compete virtually in the National August Wilson Monologue Competition Semifinals. We are so proud of their work and can’t wait for the judges to see them shine! Congratulations to coach and AWMC lead Miller Lucky from North Carolina A&T State University and to our hosts Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company!
