For centuries cultures around the world have celebrated the threshold between time and seasons by honoring their dead as the daylight wanes and darkness sets in. Collectively, we’ve lost many of the rituals that helped us mark this time and remember with joy and sadness those who have passed on. Sicilians celebrate Jornu ri Morti/Festa dei Morti, very similar to day of the dead. You clean your ancestors graves, eat, and tell stories, play games, and remember those who have come before us. This year you are all invited to celebrate together bring a dish that your favorite aunt or grandmother used to make,share a token or offering for the altar, make some art decorate a lantern and settle into a space created to remember our beloved dead together. This event will be outdoors with some seating and fire pit. Bring a camp chair and a sweater and settle in. This event is for anyone and everyone (you don’t have to be Sicilian/American to join us, all are welcome)
