π Yonder Comes a Sucker - Jim Reeves (1955)
Written entirely by Reeves himself, this was released July 1955 as the follow-up to his first real hit, "Drinking Tequila," and reached #4 country on his very second RCA Victor single. The lyric plays a bitter little trick - a man watching his ex walk off with someone new, insisting to himself she'll do the very same thing to the next guy, so there's "another sucker" waiting down the line for heartbreak. It became a staple of his live shows for the rest of his career, and even got a Norwegian-language cover, "Livets Harde Spill" ("The Hard Game of Life").
