I began creating one piece of Christmas Art as annual gift for my family and friends. This is 2016...It represents the Mother Mary and Christ. I entitle it "Greater Love". For within this simple expression is a powerful message...we all have a responsibility to love beyond ourselves. May this remind us of our bountiful blessings...may we open ourselves to sharing with our greater family of humanity. May our prayers and real intent to help be with those who are suffering great loss...may we all ask within our heart "how can I help that mother, father, child, my neighbor?"
I’m just One:
I’m just one person and I am no orator, but I have been so torn these last weeks as I witness the suffering of the Syrian people; remember the holocaust? How can this not touch our souls? As a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother and most importantly as a human being…what can I possibly do? I live on social security and the many blessings of my family. My sphere of influence is very limited. What can I possibly do? This is the lingering question. After watching the news for the past months on this ever unfolding tragedy I ask over and over… beyond praying, how can I respond? I am just one person?
Then today my thoughts ponder on the blessings I do have; food, shelter, a bed, safety, freedom, peace and love. And then the searing question cripes in ‘BUT do I have Greater Love’?
And that thought of “I’m just One person” continues to haunt me… So I go back and review my blessings list and a very simple solution comes to me (mainly because I’m a very simple person ) I eat! I eat every day! And so do my family and friends. And that’s the answer!
Here’s my thought:
Though I eat everyday… this coming Sunday I will Fast. And along with prayer; the money I would have spent on that food, I will designate it to a humanitarian organization of my choice and direct its use to Syria. In my case it will be given to my church which is actively involved with the plight of Syria and refugees around the world.
I plead for your help to make this a greater love endeavor, even though you may, like me, be only one person … if together we do it, this Sunday can be an outpouring of Greater Love and Help for so many. Please join me and pass this on to your Family and Friends…let’s see how far we can go in helping these people.
You are my Friends and I have felt your love and support many times…thank you for reading this. May you and yours be well fed, safe in your homes, blessed with life’s freedoms and peace as you impart loving acts of human kindness to our greater Family.
