🎓✨ Senior Spotlight: Nora ✨🎓

Graduating From: Bethlehem Central High School
Attending: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Dream Job: Neurosurgeon

Since 2013, Nora has brought a level of focus, determination, and intensity to Irish dance that is uniquely her own. She cares deeply, works relentlessly, and has never been afraid to set ambitious goals for herself. That drive has helped shape her into both a strong dancer and a remarkable young woman.

💚 Favorite Dances: Reel, Hornpipe, and King of the Fairies Contemporary

😂 Fun Fact:
"I tried tap and gymnastics before dance and didn’t like them. Dance was one of the only sports I accepted lessons for because obviously I was already excellent at everything else."
– Nora, age 5

💬 Favorite Quote:
"When my mom said, 'YOU’RE the dance mom in this relationship.'"

☘️ Favorite Dance Memory:
Playing games backstage while waiting for team competitions at the Oireachtas, traveling to Texas in 2024, and the excitement of recalling at the Oireachtas.

❤️ What I Love About Dance:
"How much stronger it has made me mentally and physically, the confidence, the bling of course, and my dance family."

✨ Advice to Younger Dancers:
"Coming from me, this is ridiculous, but have fun."

For someone known for taking dance seriously, that advice may be the most Nora thing ever. Irish dance has taught her resilience, discipline, and perseverance. Through the highs and lows, she has continued to show up, work hard, and push herself to improve. Her passion for dance and commitment to her goals have been inspiring to watch.

As Nora heads to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon, we have no doubt that the same determination that has carried her through years of dance will serve her well in whatever comes next.

Nora, thank you for your dedication, your determination and the countless memories you've helped create at RGB. We are incredibly proud of you and can't wait to see what your future holds. 💚☘️

🎓✨ Senior Spotlight: Liam ✨🎓

Graduating From: Troy High School
Attending: SUNY Fredonia
Major: Music Education
Dream Job: Middle School Band Teacher

Although Liam joined the RGB family just last year, he quickly became an important part of our studio. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to jump right in made him feel like part of the team from day one.

💚 Favorite Dances:
King of the Fairies (76) for the music and Planxty Drury (69)
(And definitely not the slip jig.)

🦌 Fun Fact:
Liam is a hunter.

💬 Favorite Quote:
"Life’s not about the number of times you fall down, it’s about the number of times you get up."
– Michael Flatley

☘️ Favorite Dance Memory:
Montreal Nationals 2022. In what has become dance lore, a group of dancers discovered a table of food backstage and assumed it was there for them. Between rounds they happily helped themselves to food, orange juice, and tea, only to later learn it was intended for the judges. While no one got sick, there was definitely some explaining to do before Round 2!

❤️ What I Love About Dance:
"How much it taught me about perseverance and motivation. In dance you will only be as good as you are willing to push yourself. When things go wrong, only you can get yourself back where you need to be. Teachers are guides, but they can't make us do anything. It comes down to us personally to improve."

✨ Advice to Younger Dancers:
"Make some core dance friends from outside your dance school. It's always a nice surprise to see them at a feis, and having someone you don't see every day hold you accountable is a big help too."

Liam's dance journey has taught him the value of perseverance, accountability, and friendship. As he heads to SUNY Fredonia to pursue Music Education, we know those same qualities will serve him well in the classroom and beyond.

Thank you, Liam, for sharing your talent, humor, and perspective with RGB. We are excited to see what the future holds and know you'll make a fantastic teacher.

Congratulations and best of luck on your next adventure! 💚☘️

🎓✨ Senior Spotlight: Julia ✨🎓

Graduating From: Albany High School
Attending: SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry
Dream Job: "I don't know yet, but I would love to be somewhere outside conducting research!"

Since second grade, Julia has quietly and steadily pursued her love of Irish dance. Thoughtful, humble, and hardworking, she has never sought the spotlight, yet her dedication and grace have left a lasting impression on everyone around her.

🌿 Fun Fact:
For the longest time, Julia didn't want to compete. When she finally changed her mind, COVID happened. As a result, her competitive dance journey didn't begin until her sophomore year of high school.

💬 Favorite Quote:
"To go wrong in one's own way is better than to go right in someone else's."
– Dostoevsky

💚 Favorite Dance:
Hornpipe

☘️ Favorite Dance Memory:
Visiting the Portland, Maine lighthouses in full dance glam between rounds at the Maine State Feis and having a little girl tell Julia and Rhedyn that they looked like princesses.

❤️ What I Love About Dance:
"I love that the dance itself is almost another instrument that contributes to the music. Dancers blend with the song's rhythm and time to create a unique piece in the moment. Even in soft shoes, there's something so musical about Irish dance. Each time we step on stage, the melody we create is different."

✨ Advice to Younger Dancers:
"You've heard it before, but enjoy the journey. If you're truly passionate about the sport, success will follow. Too often we put the pressure of winning on ourselves and forget the real reason we're on the stage. Remember your love for dancing, take pride in the little victories, and smile."

Julia's quiet confidence, kindness, and perseverance have been a wonderful example to those around her. She reminds us that success isn't always the loudest voice in the room. Sometimes it's found in showing up, working hard, and staying true to yourself.

As she heads to SUNY ESF, we know her curiosity, intelligence, and determination will take her far. Congratulations, Julia! We are so proud of you and excited to see where your journey leads next. 💚☘️

Graduating From: Colonie Central High School

✨ Fun Fact:
Her first feis was in 2012!

💬 Favorite Quote:
"Nice knees!"

💚 Favorite Dances:
Hornpipe, Treble Jig, 3 Sea Captains, and Slip Jig

☘️ Favorite Dance Memory:
"When I had my first recall and Jen ran up to tell me, but my mom made her wait so my dad could be the one to tell me first."

❤️ What I Love About Dance:
"Meeting new people at feiseanna and making friends and memories that I will never lose."

✨ Advice to Younger Dancers:
"Even if you feel like you're not doing good enough, keep trying, keep drilling, and take the judges' comments as something to work on, not something to beat yourself up about."

Jessica's dance journey has been filled with determination, laughter, friendships, and countless memories. Her ability to stay positive, support others, and bring joy to every room she enters is something truly special.

As she begins her next chapter at HVCC, we know she'll continue to chase her dreams with the same confidence and enthusiasm she's brought to dance for so many years.

Graduating From: Colonie High School
Attending: University at Albany

Dream Job: Owning a car dealership, though commercial real estate may be in her future.

Mary Cate comes from a family with deep roots in Irish dance. One of three dancing siblings, she is part of a family tradition that spans generations. Her mother danced, and her aunt is none other than RGB's own TCRG, Kimberly Stevens. Since 2013, Mary Cate has proudly carried on that legacy while creating a dance story all her own.

✨ Fun Fact:
She had visited 25 states before the age of 15!

💚 Favorite Dances:
Slip Jig and Hornpipe

☘️ Favorite Dance Memory:
Traveling to Ireland for a dress fitting and being featured on John Carey's Instagram.

For Mary Cate, dance has always been about more than competitions and results. It has been about the friendships, experiences, and memories made along the way. Growing up surrounded by Irish dance, she has experienced firsthand the special community that makes our sport so unique.
