The former Cass Presbyterian Church on Front Street has served in its alternate capacity as the Cass Community Center for decades now, having been designated as such during the MSR&LHA era. This photo shows one of the long serving lines for a Saturday evening Logger’s Dinner during the 1983 Cass Railfan Weekend. It was a rainy day for photos on the line to Durbin, but that did not deter the 200 or so patrons from gathering for a buffet style meal. (Also visible in the photo is the Cass Masonic Lodge which, at the time of the photo, was still active!)
In the present day, The Cass Community Center is in need of some upgrades and repairs, and much of the proceeds from this year’s Cass Days event will be utilized for that purpose. This Saturday evening, June 20, 2026–the same day as the Cass Parade of Steam—join the Friends of Cass for a meal in the picnic area near the old Cass Lumber Mill for a Brisket and BBQ dinner with all the fixin’s to go with it! There will also be live music to entertain you while you feast! For $35, you not only get a delicious meal, but also are automatically entered into a drawing for some great prizes! If you aren’t able to be there in person for the meal, no worries, you can still buy a ticket and participate in the raffle, not only for a chance to win some AMAZING prizes—some of the best ever offered at any Cass raffle event—but also to show your support for your favorite railroad community without even leaving your house! Only 200 raffle tickets will be sold. Dinner will be served between 4PM and 7PM, and with a nice wide range of times like that, you will likely NOT wind up standing in a line quite as long as the one in this photo!!!
We hope you’ll be able to find a way to support this cause so that the historic Cass Community Center can continue to entertain groups for special occasions well into the future!
