Our club will be taking a field trip to the Denver Art Museum on November 7th to see the Charles M. Russell exhibit. We will meet at Showcase at 9am to make car pool arrangements.

The Denver Art Museum is currently hosting the special exhibition “Storytellers: The Blackfeet Nation and Charles M. Russell.” The show remains on display to January 24th, 2027.

Over 80 pieces, featuring oil paintings, watercolors, and bronzes by iconic "cowboy artist" Charles M. Russell alongside ancestral Nitsitapii (Blackfoot Confederacy) works. This show was developed alongside Blackfeet advisors to re-examine Russell's art through an Indigenous lens, exploring cultural storytelling, connections to bison, and the roles of Blackfeet women and men.

Wow!! Just wow!! Today our club took a tour of Distortions Unlimited. We were guided through the facility seeing creations in various stages, including plaster molds, gluing and painting, and shipping room for the various sculptures.

Distortions has been here in Greeley, Colorado for 48 years. They began selling only masks and now ship sculptures, masks, and animatronics throughout the world.

You can find the show "Making Monsters" on YouTube giving you a fascinating look at the world of animatronics with mask maker Ed Edmunds. Ed and his company, Distortions Unlimited, are known in this industry as innovators with their impeccable design and ex*****on. How lucky we are to have this business filled with talented artists right here in Greeley!

Monday October 5 we will meet at 2:00 PM at Distortions Unlimited, 517 13th Street, Greeley for a tour of the mask making, Hollywood prop producing, stars of the television show “Making Monsters”. The entrance is on the railroad tracks on the west side of the building. Be prepared for a scare, but after all it is the month of Halloween! 👹🧌👻🎃🧛‍♂️

Our October 5th meeting will be a tour of Distortions Unlimited, a Halloween manufacturing company and online Halloween store that has been “Making Monsters” since 1978! “We take pride in crafting high quality, artistic, and durable animatronics, props, masks, costumes and displays for a variety of customers. Our creations are used by Halloween events, home haunters, theme parks, haunted houses, horror fans, monster lovers, and collectors, just to name a few.” Meet downtown at their facility 517 13th Street Greeley.

Scratchboard artist Cathy Sheeter presented at our regular monthly meeting last night. She spoke about her process of adding colored ink to her boards before black ink to create vivid and detailed drawings. Cathy showed us her favorite tools and demonstrated with a drawing of a female hummingbird on a nest. Thank you for joining us Cathy!
