The beginning of a new day. 🌅

Sunrise over Merrill Creek Reservoir in Warren County, New Jersey.

I arrived to a sky that just kept developing — layers of clouds catching the first warm light of the morning while the reservoir reflected it below.

Sometimes getting out early pays off. This was one of those mornings. 📷

Just before the storm…

The gardens at Von Thun Farms, Washington NJ were still full of summer color while a very different kind of sky was moving in overhead.

The arch first caught my attention, but it was the pathway beyond it that made the photograph for me — almost inviting you to walk through despite what was coming.

Sometimes Mother Nature provides a better backdrop than anything you could have planned. 🌿⛈️

Great Meadows this morning.

I've driven past and photographed this tree before — including last winter when it stood alone in a field of snow.

This morning I passed it again and actually hit the brakes and backed up.

The old mailbox, the overgrown field, the canopy of trees, the wildflowers and the fog surrounding that familiar tree completely changed the scene.

One of the things I love about photography is realizing that you don't always need to travel somewhere extraordinary.

Sometimes a familiar place just needs the right morning.

Sunday morning at Mountain Lake.

I've lived in Great Meadows for a long time, and mornings like this are a reminder that sometimes you don't need to go very far looking for a photograph.

The fog was hanging low through the mountains, the lake was quiet, and that empty picnic table sitting along the water just completed the scene.

For a few minutes, everything seemed to stand still.

Somewhere between Captain Hook, Jaws, and a really bad day on the water… ⚓️🦈😂

Found this monster hanging over Cape Porpoise Harbor and had to photograph it.
