Alana Hastings, Paula Evitts, and Sharron Mashburn will be the featured artists at Studio 706, 706 7th Ave. S. on March 7, from 6 to 9 PM.

Alana has been around ranching and farming most of her life. This involves work and she is not afraid of work. She graduated from the University of Great Falls in 2006 with a B.A. in Fine Arts. She has been doing watercolor painting for about 40 years. Her first watercolor painting was with Ruth Alair. She has studied with many other local artists. She has studied and practiced varied techniques and styles. She says she has learned more by giving away what she has learned to students in classes she teaches. She wants them to be able to create.

Her watercolors and oils are going in a new direction. They are more simple and depict some abstraction around the ranch. The color combinations seem to be more lively and add more life to the landscapes. Enjoy the process.

Paula Evitts is a potter. She was born and raised in Iowa. She has lived and worked in CA, WA, IA, OR, and MT with her personal growth workshops. She has taken watercolor and pottery classes in Seattle. Now she continues her creative expression through pottery with Cindy Eve Pottery. Paula's creations are functional. She has a selection of pottery totems for indoor or outdoor planters or pots. World Community is the theme for this work.

Sharron Mashburn, a long time educator, works in watercolor, oils, and sometimes pastels.

Color and composition are her main focus. She paints from her photos and memory. One of her pieces is of a wonderful place, Zion Park in Utah. She grew up in Las Vegas of "yesteryear" when road runners and red racer snakes could be seen in patches of desert in the rapidly growing town. She plans to paint more desert scenes. She loves Great Falls and all the four seasons.

Refreshments will be served. Free admission. For information call 761-8228.

Steve Tilleraas and Ralph Lab will be the featured Studio 706 artists during the First Friday Art Walk, October 4, 2013 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 706 7th Avenue South. Refreshments will be served.

Steve Tilleraas has been dabbling in photography for a number of years, concentrating on family, landscapes, flowers and wildlife. Often taken on hikes around his family’s cabin west of Chisholm Mountain above the steel bridge at Hardy Creek, these photographs are now used as subjects for paintings in acrylics, gouache, or most often, oils.

Brilliant new landscape paintings and photos of rock outcrops, twisted pines, and distant mountains, as well as stunning florals and wildlife close-ups such as a new blue bird photo are among the unique offerings.

Culbertson native Ralph Lab’s first experience with art was in the early 1990s when after retiring he decided to try painting landscapes on small pieces of wood using acrylics. Eventually he took painting lessons until heart bypass surgery intervened. After recovery he resumed painting, adopting oils as his primary medium.

Recent artworks have featured dramatic renditions of cowboys and livestock silhouetted against colorful backgrounds. Lab, a veteran himself, has employed similar techniques to complete paintings with patriotic themes and send them to active troops and their families as a way of honoring their service. Seal Team 6 and Passing in Review are examples of
military paintings to be displayed at his show.
