A look back at one of the
First “automation” systems similar to what was used at WGOH in the 70s & 80s.

Notice the big tape (reel to reel) plays till the end of the song then a silent tone that only the equipment can detect tells the “kart machine” similar to an 8 track player to play a station announcement then a commercial. Another silent tone at the end of the commercial tells the machine to play another station announcement (an ID) and then on to another reel cues up with another song. This goes on all day long.

I trained on one of these back in the early 90s before they were dismantled and replaced with computer hard drives that could do all of this without the
Machinery breaking down and constantly being maintained.

A piece of history!

Mike is taking a few days off so the Col Dreyden Gordon has snuck in to make sure the music doesn’t stop. The Show must go on.
