Turns out housekeeping and food service keep thinking this is a real threat…😂🤣 Our day shift nurse said she was a bit ashamed she had to write the note below. But the supervisors keep getting calls of concern, and he didn’t get lunch till almost 3pm because food service left it around the corner on a side hall too scared to bring it in. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 WATCH OUT FOR THE DREADED SAUSAGE ANKLE DISEASE!

I made the conscious decision yesterday to let and go. Elias had a spinal fusion this week (from the highest rib to his pelvis, and his arm was broken in surgery complicating things further). I expected a fair bit of downtime while staying with him in the hospital, and thought tiny ink would be a good fit, but instead I barely have time to eat or change out of my PJ’s each day. Obviously, his care is the priority.

Luckily, his pain medicines are starting to have better effect, and we can tell because Sausage starts talking and threatening ankles. Everyone laughs and asks about the Sausage sign on his door. It’s pictured here when in PiCU, though it transferred with us to the main peds floor last night, where we will be staying at least next week as well. We have a great team of many doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, RT’s, PT’s, OT’s, a dietitian, a music therapist, child life specialists, a sweet therapy dog, and even a fabulous pharmacist that really went above and beyond for us helping make our stay not just busy, but also the best it can be in a trying situation. We really appreciate the efforts many have gone to, and when Elias is feeling better and has recovered more, Sausage will show up here again -no doubt.
