I know of a few, very few, people who have stepped out of the elven closet. It is not an easy thing to do. Some people will ridicule, some will dismiss, others will even want to persecute those of us who admit to being elven or faery beings in the human world — yet there are quite a few of us. Many keep the secret to themselves, or may not even admit it to themselves. A few others share it with trusted allies, but never with the muggle world. Much like witches, we sense the scorn and wrath of misguided people who think there is only one valid reality (the one they believe in and therefore experience). But reality is as varied as the beings living in it and your reality is as valid as mine (and of course vise versa).
It's not an easy thing to do... even to post this on facebook... but it is time. It's time to pull out all the stops and lay our cards on the table of life — to step into the wild and wonderful fullness of who we are, at least to the degree that we are able in this moment. It is time, because time as we know it is collapsing and all secrets are being revealed. It is time, because we need to shine our lights and give each other courage to stand up for who and what we are... even if it seems weird, impossible, or even insane.
I've been feeling the call of the elven realm for more than five decades, and in that time I've remembered more and more of who I am and my kinship with the elves. I've been extremely fortunate to have met others who are my kin and to share a connection with them in my shamanic journeys to Avalon and fair Elfland. We came here for a reason, because the world desperately needs our elven perspective on living in harmony with Nature and each other.
Maybe you are elven or faery too. Maybe you've been afraid to let anyone know, but I see you. I acknowledge you. I honor you for taking the brave leap from the blissful harmony of the elven realm into this madhouse of human experience, because of your love for humanity and planet Earth. I see you.
And maybe by sharing my elven story, I will inspire you and give you permission to share your story, and then your beautiful elven faery energy will fly free through the human world to inspire others who are waiting for your light to touch them.
I don't know why it is so hard. It brings up a big fear, a fear that some call "the witch wound." Fear of persecution. Fear of being squashed, tormented, burned at the stake. It's a very real fear, but it is time to face it head on and clear it once and for all.
Who knows? Maybe I will pull out my invisibility cloak once again and disappear down the ferny path to fair Elfland. But for now, I'm here. I'm present in the human world. And I am an elf!
