TOLOA introduction ..
▪️Family run Polynesian performing arts group in the DFW area has been teaching & sharing the culture through music & dance for the past 10 years.
Originally dancers & musicians of a prestigious and award winning Polynesian Dance Troupe in Garden Grove, CA - we had the privilege & honor to perform at festivals & compete in various Heivas in CA, HI, UT, NV & Tahiti.
After many years of helping other dance groups, we felt the calling to bring our 20+ years of experience & knowledge to North Texas and start our own Polynesian dance group.
▪️What is TOLOA?
In the Samoan language, TOLOA is a duck. An old Samoan proverb states, "E lele le TOLOA, ae ma'au i le vai". Translation: the duck will fly far, but will always return to the water. Meaning: One will leave home, but will always return.
For many of us, we are children of family members who left their homes in the islands & crossed an ocean to an unknown country in search of a better life and opportunity for their children. Most of those pioneers never returned home, but their culture, love & traditions of their homeland have been passed down generations.
It's for this reason TOLOA was created-to preserve our culture and pass on our knowledge & legacy to the next generation.
▪️What will TOLOA offer its members?
Our program is designed to teach the proper techniques & styles of dance from the South Pacific islands, while instilling dancers with a sense of pride, respect & appreciation for the Polynesian culture and traditions.
▪️We welcome ALL who are dedicated, open & willing to learn the dances & music of our ancestors and able to represent our culture with Love, Honor & Respect.
▪️May the wings of TOLOA always guide you home
