Barnstormers Theatre

Barnstormers Theatre Barnstormers Theatre is one of Oregon's oldest continuously operating community theaters. We are a non-profit Oregon corporation.

Founded in 1952, we've been bringing the magic of live theater to the Rogue Valley for over 74 years! We have a paid Executive Director and all others involved in our productions -- the board of directors, artistic committee members, actors, directors, stage and technical crew, box office, hosts and publicity persons -- are volunteers, working for the love of live community theatre, maybe some tip

money and a few free tickets. If you’d like to be involved, there are many opportunities that require little or no theater knowledge and very little donated time. Leave a message on the box office voice mail - 541 479-3557

A note from the director:
La Cage Aux Folles, which translates loosely to "The Cage of Crazy Girls," began as a French play written by Jean Poiret in 1973. Set in Saint-Tropez, it became an international sensation, spawning a beloved 1978 French film and a 1996 American remake, "The Birdcage," starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. The Broadway musical followed in 1983, winning six Tony Awards including Best Musical. Over fifty years later, the story refuses to fade.
Setting this production in the present day was a deliberate choice. We live in a moment that wants us to believe we've come so far. And in some ways, we have. But turn on the news, scroll through your phone, and you'll find the same old arguments dressed up in new clothes. Who deserves dignity? Who gets to define a family? Who has the right to love the way they love inside the walls of their own home?
La Cage answers all of that with sequins, music, and the quiet truth that love doesn't require someone else's permission. Our values are not fixed things. They are shaped and deepened by the people we hold close, by the friends who become family, by the ones who show up simply because they chose to.
I hope you leave St. Tropez a little more sparkly and a little undone. You may even feel inspired to call someone you love on the way home.

🎶 Something "Extraordinary" is Happening at Barnstormers! 🎶

While our cast is busy perfecting their kicks and high notes, there is a whole different kind of magic happening behind the scenes for La Cage aux Folles! 👠✨

We are currently on-site recording the full orchestral score to ensure this show sounds as spectacular as it looks, this 4 piece orchestra is in the homestretch of this remarkable feat. A huge shout out to Joe Dinkowitz from Middle Rogue Audio, LLC, who is working tirelessly to record, splice, and clean up every single track. On of our lead actor's in La Cage , Peter Del Fiorentino and choreographer, Denise Baker Actresss are on site today also assisting the process. Thanks to Joe’s expertise, our "birds" will be performing to a professional, polished soundscape that brings the glitz and glamour of St. Tropez right here to Grants Pass! 🎤🎧

It’s an interesting journey to build a musical from the ground up, but we can't wait for you to hear the final result.

🎟 Tickets and Season Passes are LIVE now! Don’t miss out on the party of the year. The show opens May 29th! Get yours at barnstormersgp.com or call our box office at 541-479-3557

"I am what I am... and what I am needs no excuses."

We’ve had some great conversations with our community lately about our production of La Cage aux Folles.
We want to share why this story matters so much to us. Beyond the sequins and the spectacle, the "heart" of the story is deeply rooted in the universal struggle for acceptance within a family
It challenges us to see past the makeup, wigs and feathers to see the genuine human connection underneath it all. It’s about the "unconventional" being valid and worthy of respect and the "scandalous" being, well... just theater! The idea that "drag" is not apprpriate ignores centuries of theatrical history. Shakespeare’s plays were written for and performed by males in female roles because women were legally prohibited on stage; drag is just the continuation of that artistic lineage. Ultimately, the 'scandal' is usually more about modern social labels than the performance itself. We view these performances as a celebration of theatrical craft and history, rather than something that needs to be hidden. It is totally okay if this is not your cup of tea, we have a full season 75 line-up ahead that promises to have something for everyone!

The Details:
The Vibe: A vibrant, sequin-studded celebration of unconditional love and authenticity.
The Content: While famous for its glitz and drag, the "heart" of the story is the universal struggle for family acceptance. It contains mild language and deals with societal prejudice and unconventional family dynamics.
Suitability: Best suited for mature children (12+), though many find it a wonderful experience for younger, mature audiences.
Don’t miss this celebration of theatrical history and human heart. 💖

The show opens May 29th and runs through June 21st. Don't miss your chance to join the fun!
