I just made my biggest and most expensive sale of an original. 7’x5’ foot oil on canvas. “Trey Channeling the Cosmic Goo”
A little background about this painting. In August 2009, I had just met Erin. She had stayed at my house every night since we met but I was heading down to Shorline to see Phish and then turning around to head up to the Gorge for Phish as well. I asked her if she would just stay at my house and that I would swing back by on my way to the Gorge. ( Mind u this is a 28 hour round trip drive to see 3 shows)
While at the Gorge, I had the idea of Trey channeling his dead musical hero’s while he is playing. When I got home the idea just fell out of my head and onto the canvas. I’m not sure what was going on with this painting, it could just be the size…when I finished it, my father in law came to my classroom to see it and it made him cry. (This is a man who has asked me to turn Phish off, more than once.)
This summer I was really having a hard time having to walk by this painting everyday, and almost took a knife to it more than once. Me, my bank account and the person who bought the original, are all glad I didn’t.
