Is “King John,” which predates “Venus and Adonis” by at least two years, perhaps the most revealing Prince Tudor work in the Shake-Speare canon? Is Edward deVere actually Philip the Bastard (philosophical and loyal pseudo-hero with an important message about bastards and succession), while Henry Wriothesley is Arthur, whose claim to the throne is denied to the detriment of all? Is the entire play a message to the Queen?
