Highly recommend watching this video. Dr. Moore points out the importance of having knowledgeable dentist work on your horses and does a great job explaining why proper balancing of the mouth is important.
He also has several great informational videos that he does and I definitely recommend giving them a look as well.

In this video, we take a deep dive into the reality of equine dentistry—what’s being done right, what’s going wrong, and what can go horribly wrong in a hors...

Something cool I saw the other day. This horse has an extra tooth on both lower arcades and has caused a little over crowding. The last tooth in the videos is the extra.
As you follow along the arcades in the videos you will also notice some other dental problems such as-
Feed packing
Inflammation to the gum line
Perio pockets- spaces/ recession in the gumline by the teeth caused by feed packing
Tooth displacement
Diastema’s- gaps between the teeth.
Cut/ulcerated gums and tongue caused by sharp buccal and lingual points.

Things not seen in this video because we corrected them first are-
Sharp points-aka buccal and lingual points
Hooks- sharp protruding tips of enamel that hang off the front of the first molars and back of the last molars.
Wave pattern- uneven plane of teeth that resembles the look of a wave.

These are just a handful of the issues that we look for on dental examinations and why it is important to have your equine friends teeth examined yearly. Most of these issues we are able to fix with routine floating.

If your equine friend is in need of a dental exam or a float you can reach out on here or call/text at 8179332314. I work on all equids ( horses, minis, drafts, mules, donkeys) and all disciplines.

** these videos were taken after we had removed the buccal and lingual points and corrected the wave pattern.**

Is your horse getting the most out of all the spring grasses? Having your horse’s or donkey’s teeth checked and/or floated is the best way to make sure that they are getting the most efficiency from their grazing time. Some problems in horses teeth that can impair efficiency with grazing are:

- Sharp points on the edges of the teeth
- Wave mouth- uneven wearing of teeth that cause the plain of the mouth to sit in a wave-like pattern
- Loose or bad teeth
- Hooks- tall sharp enamel caused by uneven wearing of either the most forward tip of the 1st molars ( the 6’s) or the furthest tip of the last molars ( the 11’s)

If you feel like your horse or donkey is experiencing trouble eating or if they are just due for a check up shoot me a message and we can get you on the books.

I look forward to helping you and your horses!
