ARTIST STATEMENT:

Above all, I am extremely thankful for this past election. Yes, the outcome was and still very much is highly unpleasant, but it woke me up, and I am forever grateful to that. Because of the political and social events continuing to occur in response to Donald J. Trump’s presidency, I have never felt so empowered to be a woman.
With this piece, I have used sanitary napkins, or pads, to create a quilt. Within numerous pads, I have stitched in various phrases taken from my personal life and signs that were created for the Women’s Marches back in January in protest to the government. Using stitching and quilting techniques, I confront the traditional ideas of what women are supposed to be able to do in society. With the use of sanitary napkins, I push the idea that menstruation is not a weakness. In all reality, it bonds each woman together. In addition, the use of the blank pads that break up the space allude to the future generations of strong women who will continually add to the empowerment. The micro-fiber plush fabric stitched along the sides give it a feel of comfort, allowing the viewer to feel a sense of nostalgia as it is comparable to a baby blanket, making one feel safe and warm. Because of this, I feel as though it is important that a woman feels comfortable in her own skin, and it is comforting to know that each woman is not alone, regardless of any situation that we go through, but especially during menstruation. The imperfections of the stitching throughout the piece are due to the imperfections of the journey it takes to get there, and the journey that is to come, and the overall wear and tear that comes with being a woman.

Hello all.

I have obviously been really, really horrible about keeping this thing up to date. I'm sorry for that. However, some exciting things are happening in my art world, and world in general.

If you didn't already know, I got married to an amazing man back in July and moved into a rented home with him and have been settling into our married lives together. Married life is da bomb.

I have recently found an immense passion for hand lettering. Anything and everything. I love it. I'm currently dabbling in it and figuring out what exactly I want to do with it, so I will post updates with that in the near future. So, if you need anybody for custom anything, hit me up! :)

Also, I just started my first senior year at Kendall College of Art and Design. I have no idea when I got old enough to be able to say senior in college, but here we are. I am so blessed to still be pursuing a degree in what I absolutely love and adore. I am very excited for what is in store this semester, so stay tuned for more information!

Thank you all for sticking around with me! It means the world!

"I have often wondered why we are drawn to the things we can't have. Things that are wrong for us like the knife we know will cut, the fire we know will burn. We seek them out and try to love them, fix them. All the while making excuses to justify these foolish desires. And then we cry when they turn on us. When the knife pierces our hearts and the fire consumes our flesh. We cry out, 'why, why? You were supposed to love me.' Well, my dear, this is why - you should know better than to love a wild thing."

Let me just start off by saying that I like being twins because I really like to love my sister. She's my built-in best friend and my life has been significantly greater because she has been by my side through it all. I would say though, that the most challenging thing [about being a twin] has been publicly defining myself. People tend to become curious when they find out that I have a twin, so they begin questioning. I totally get it. It is actually really interesting and unique to us. However, with twins, society begins assuming that because they are twins (fraternal or identical) that they must enjoy doing the same things as each other. Sure. This is true. Mycah and I played tennis together and both enjoy art and all those things. But we are different. She is pursuing child development while I am developing my skills as an artist at Kendall College of Art and Design. She's also four inches taller than me and a couple shades darker than me. Individuality is getting lost with twins. || Final assignment for Drawing Materials and Processes | Graphite |

Oh wow. I'm so sorry that I haven't been around much this semester. It's really starting to kick my butt. I will create an album soon of the work that I have created this semester for all of you wonderful people to see.

Just five more class days until I am officially a junior at KCAD. Where in the world has the time gone??

Get off of Facebook now and go enjoy this glorious day the Lord has given us!

Hello all!

So sorry for the recent absence. Some exciting things are happening this semester! So much creative freedom in my various courses, and God has been extremely faithful and present as I continue to grow in my talent and schooling.

God has recently opened my eyes to the art of printmaking. At first, I questioned it and everything because if know me, you know I'm not the biggest fan of color. I'm a big graphite person. When I began creating things in the introduction class this semester, I immediately fell in love. I knew that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. With that, I have decided to double major in Printmaking and Drawing.

I am so excited to continue to thrive and grow as an artist and a person as I learn more about myself and my abilities each and everyday.

I promise to continue to post things more regularly than I have been. Thank you so much for all of the support you continuously show.

God bless.
