In honor of and looking ahead to Father's Day, we're highlighting this recent acquisition by Kareem-Anthony Ferreira.

Ferreira's paintings explore Black identity and portraiture through intimate scenes drawn from his own memories, layering family photographs, textiles, and paint into richly textured compositions rooted in personal and cultural heritage.

Reflect on liberation, memory and community with this work in GRAM’s Level 3 galleries during your next visit.

This summer, join the Land Conservancy of West Michigan, Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM), John Ball Zoo, Querkus Creative Consulting and Grand Rapids Bug Club as we shine a spotlight on some of our favorite nighttime pollinators: moths!

Using a practice called lightsheeting (or moth sheeting), which is a method used by entomologists and nature enthusiasts alike, we will observe and identify moths at night. This method involves hanging a white sheet and illuminating it with a bright light, which attracts moths and other night-flying bugs.

This year, we have a fun new addition to our moth sheeting program! Over the past few months, LCWM has been partnering with the GRAM on their exhibition The Matter of Awe: Landscapes in Art. As a part of this partnership, GRAM will be joining us at Saul Lake Bog and providing art materials and guidance for those interested in sketching as a way of practicing observation and attention as we watch and discover what critters join us at the moth sheets! 🦋

Today we’re remembering David Hockney, who passed away yesterday at the age of 88.

Last summer, we welcomed his work to Grand Rapids with ‘David Hockney: Perspective Should Be Reversed,’ the largest survey of prints in the artist’s sixty-year career. Watching visitors of all ages connect with his work was a reminder of his endless curiosity about how we see, and his belief that art should bring joy.

Thank you, David Hockney, for a lifetime of looking closely!
