Kelly here.
The holidays can be hard on many people. This year it is especially hard on me. I lost my dad in September. I didn't want to decorate. I didn't want to out up lights. I just want my dad. I was very much a daddy's girl and the hole in my heart is unbearable as the holidays grows closer.
I thought my dad would want me/us to do a display. He loved coming out and seeing the lights and would tell all of his friends about it. He was in his 80s and he would ask me to record it and put it on his phone. He would show everyone he met. Nurses, doctors, even the cashier at the grocery store. He loved them.
So here I am trying to put on a brave face, to carry on even though I don't want to. To keep honoring him and trying to spread joy.
I have made a few posts this year, posts I didn't want to. Posts about our signs, traffic, etc.
We have been doing this display for over a decade. We don't take money. We don't want it. We just want to spread some cheer and make someone's day a little brighter around the holidays.
Unfortunately there is an abundance of asshats this year. Its not just at our display, but other people in our Christmas light community has said the same thing.
Then when I had seen this about the Lunar Family in Cleveland it really bothered me.
I know them personally. They are very giving and caring people. The money, time, and passion they sacrificed from their lives, their family to enter the LightFight and help raise money for a charity was extinguished from those bad few.
Our line is long.
You can see it from Route 6. You don't know what people are going through, so be kind.
Plan to wait 30 to 60 minutes. Bring a snack. Get a pizza and enjoy the show. The FREE show.. spread some Christmas spirit.
However, if you feel a Grinch attack coming on stay home.
If you can't read the posted signs. Stay home.
If you can't stop blocking the neighbor driveway, stay home.
If you think you're better than everyone else and you want to park on the wrong side of the street stay home.
If you want to block the lanes from the north stay home.
Life is too short to bring misery to others and we don't want it here. Sorry..not sorry for rant. To everyone else, don't let the Grinches ruin your holidays. -kel
