The Stark Turn Players would like to bid farewell to a long time member of our team. Co-founder and former chair of development and executive director, Sarah Stark, stepped down from her position on the board as of Nov. 25, 2015.

Sarah has always dedicated the utmost of her heart and soul to the company for the 5 years of its existence and helped to shape STP from a mere seed of an idea to the potent, living theatre company that you see before you today.

We are grateful for her work over the years in the various roles of actor, choreographer, director, graphic artist, marketer, photographer, playwright, and president. Wishing her great prosperity and joy in her new path!

There is such beauty in seeing an idea, a seed of the mind, sprout into form through the action of a hand pressing a pen to paper. Then to have that form shared with other minds and beating hearts to such a scope that eventually that same story is told by other minds, bodies, and unabashed hearts on a stage sharing life with an audience.

We are deeply grateful to share stories with you. Further, your stories matter to us. So much so that we would like to ask for the privilege to share them with the world.

ANNOUNCING DEADLINE EXTENSION FOR 10-MINUTE PLAY SUBMISSIONS: NOV. 22, 2015!

STP is proud to once again host a highlight of our local writing talent with an amazing opportunity for two winning playwrights in the separate divisions of comedy and drama to have a hour long, one act play produced during a double-billed show in 2016.
It's simple: submit a play that is 10 minutes in length, in the category of either comedy or drama, to Stark Turn Players by November 22nd! This year's theme is "Socially Relevant?" which you may interpret as you wish, giving you full creative freedom as a writer. Stark Turn will pick the best, up to 8-10 Finalists split between both categories, who will have their plays produced by STP in Spring 2016.

During February 2016, in conjunction with the Lake Effect Fringe Festival, audiences will get to enjoy seeing all of these performed together as a collective show and a panel of local arts professionals will judge the winners: one for Best Comedy, one for Best Drama. Our past winners have ranged from writing veterans to those who have never written a play but found their scripts to be huge hits! Playwrights who have participated in previous years are always welcome.

It's that easy - if you can write it, we'd love to see it, and put it on a stage!

Tips:

- We'd like the script in an appropriate format, with pertinent info on the submitting playwright; see Stark Turn's web page for more details: http://www.starkturnplayers.org/playwright-opportunities.html

- This deadline is fast approaching; please let us know if you have questions. Tell your friends!

- It helps to read the script out loud, or have friends read it together, to make sure it fits within the 10 minute time frame (give or take a minute or two as this may vary slightly when produced).

This past spring, The Stark Turn Players were proud to present "Draw Me Out", an original play written by Grand Rapids resident Laura Uzarski. We are thrilled to announce that this production has been recognized by BroadwayWorld Detroit in several categories for their 2015 awards! If you have not already done so, please take a moment to vote at the link below. "Draw Me Out" was nominated for Best Play, Adam Hyde was nominated for Best Director of a Play, and actors Claire Mahave and Benjamin Brown were nominated for Best Actress/Actor In a Play, respectively.
