In 2011, LaFontsee Galleries relocated to a larger space in the East Hills gallery district. With a welcoming, ope

n environment, the gallery is devoted to personal service and fine regional and national art with a soul.

Heather Zusman is a wood sculptor whose work draws on her fine-furniture-making training and traditional woodworking, with influences from Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts design. In Balanced Dance Diptych, she laminates layers of veneer into sinuous sculptural paths, exploring the dialogue between form and displaced shadow; the paired walnut and pink koto forms create a poised sense of movement and balance.

Ann Vandervelde is an accomplished abstract artist whose practice draws on her B.S. in Art from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, M.Ed. from Penn State, and graduate work in media studies at NYU and in London. Based on Lopez Island, Washington, she works with acrylic, oil pastel, paper, and mixed media to transform observations of water, geography, and climate into energetic compositions; in "Ocean Cliffs," fractured forms and layered blues create a dynamic meeting point between land, water, and atmosphere.

Rachael Van D**e is a full-time artist whose abstract landscape and figurative work is shaped by life off the grid in the Blue Ridge Mountains, travel abroad, and national and international artist residencies. A recurring LaFontsee exhibitor in Grand Rapids and Douglas, she brings quick marks, layered color, and shifting forms to "Two Oranges On Table," where the work’s lively palette feels at home amid the rituals of gathering.

Kim Cassidy is an artist who uses encaustic to pay close attention to the natural world, relationships, and quiet moments that can easily be overlooked. Her work embraces both control and surrender, using color, texture, and composition to create a sense of peace and invite deeper looking. Custom framing can make a beautiful work feel fully at home.

These works by Rebecca Tucker arrived from London and were framed by LaFontsee in Grand Rapids. Thoughtful choices in frame, mat, glazing, and presentation give Tucker’s layered works on paper room to breathe while helping protect them for years to come.

The result is a refined balance of artwork and architecture: proof that the right frame does more than finish a piece; it makes the art shine.

Rebecca Tucker’s works (now framed!) are currently available at our Grand Rapids gallery and can also be purchased online and shipped anywhere in the world.

Toni Swarthout was born in Midland, Michigan, graduated from Northern Michigan University, and has spent more than fifteen years developing her abstract and abstracted representational painting practice in her East Nashville studio. Inspired by nature, everyday happenings, and artists including Cy Twombly, Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Richter, and Mark Rothko, she approaches art as a conscious way of life.

Swarthout’s work has been exhibited and collected throughout the United States, with a practice grounded in thoughtful observation and expressive abstraction. In "All Good Boys," energetic marks, layered color, and flashes of orange, blue, green, and violet create a lively visual field: open, searching, and full of movement.

Pamela Roberson is an abstract painter who studied Fine Art at the University of Houston and maintains an active studio practice in Florida and Michigan. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is held in private collections throughout the United States. Working through layered painting, collage, concealment, and revision, Roberson allows each piece to evolve through observation and response rather than a predetermined outcome.

In "Scope", deep teal forms, pale passages, and warm yellow marks emerge through a richly worked surface, balancing structure and disruption, clarity and ambiguity. The painting invites a closer look at what is revealed, what is concealed, and what continues to take shape beneath the surface.

Michael Rajnicek, a Michigan artist and Grand Valley State University BFA graduate, creates work that moves between immediate, unfiltered reactions and layered ideas rooted in philosophy, environmentalism, biology, neurology, and the construction of the Self. Inspired by nature, his practice explores the gray complexity between opposing categories. In "Overwhelmed," a dark, atmospheric field surrounds a solitary figure, animal forms, and fragmented text, evoking the tension between instinctive response and deeper reflection.
