Starting tomorrow, for the next 10 days, I will have my little studio across from the big lake open for you. You can witness the unfolding process of clay, and hold vessels still warm with the energy of creation. My dream has always been to create pieces that carry within them messages love, intention, and connection. I believe in my deepest being that art is such a beautiful way to combat these times of division and scoop each other up in connection. Art is a symbol of humanity, which can root us in our innate empathy and compassion. Art has the power to open up our hearts and souls, which has never been more important. It is my desire and aim to create objects with a soul that are imperfectly perfect symbols of the hand, and remind us to take care of each other, nature, and ourselves. I would love to share this space and these conversations with you. To make it even more special, my dear friend and fellow artist, , will be joining me in the studio October 3rd & 4th for the second weekend of the tour. We’ll be offering our art that seamlessly fits together, woven in connection.

Believing in the spiritual world is easy when you lose your best friend.
You connect to the depths of your sorrow -
A place thankfully you don’t have to visit often because of it’s all consuming darkness.
To imagine a life void of life after death would cause anyone to spiral - so I don’t -
I surrender to the ethereal, to a world that I can’t grasp or understand but my body seems to somehow know.

Grief is the throat
A ball that I used to play fetch with you now blocking my airways —
So God, comfort me with signs from my beloved.
Open the eyes of my weary soul to connect, to see, to be, to release, to move through, and to eventually appreciate these fleeting moments of tenderness —
A testament to a bursting love everlasting.

For now I will rest in the arms of my people.
I will rest in the sun and the moon and the stars,
For the natural world brings us closer to each other and therefore closer to ourselves.
I believe that this longing to see each other again will one day be fulfilled,
And I choose to rest in that.

Rest in peace my dear, dear, soul.
Forever my Rio tan lindo

“But I have another, even greater guru: the world.
I love to watch the clouds glide across the sky
Flowing and foaming so gracefully.
I love to walk among the trees
And feel their calm wise sentience.
I love to gaze across the hills and fields
And sense the landscape’s ancient soul.

As I watch, I’m filled with reverence.
My being falls still and silent, like a dumbstruck lover.
Waves of ecstasy flow through my body
Revelations pour into my mind
And I’m lifted high above myself
Emptied out and purified
By the beautiful is-ness of the world.

The space of the sky is my own space.
The soul of the landscape is my own soul.
And my guru is ever present and everywhere.”

Book: The Clear Light: Spiritual Reflections and Meditations
— This book was gifted to me by someone so caring that came on the studio tour this year. It is such an incredible read and daily devotional, and I love that it was a gift as it has been equally a gift to my soul!

This exact concept in this excerpt has been such a healing peace for me.
It balances out all of the strife I encounter, and creates space for me to see my life, the wholeness that is life, and not just an individual situation. It pulls me away and brings me back to choosing for myself aspects in alignment and also releases me from the thinking that I am in control.
Nature brings reverence, awe, peace, humility, and presence.

I highly recommend you take some time to observe nature especially this week during the election. It can offer you so much amidst the turmoil. Don’t get me wrong, I voted proudly 💙, but I can’t let it overtake me.

Sending you all love!

Hello to dears far and wide! 🫶🏼

I cannot even begin to tell you how many lessons, dreams, and decisions have been packed in to this last year of life.
I have been keenly aware that in order to really devote myself to seeing something through, I have to take from somewhere, but that full circle when I come back to it all, the depth, knowledge, growth, and understanding will amount to so much more.

I have been creating and making in the studio, but at a different pace since returning back to the North Shore from Costa Rica. I have been pouring into other places in my life more, and therefore haven’t been as prolific in ceramics. I deeply believe that is the ebb and flow of life, and I am riding that, because I believe my journey in ceramics is long. I am excited to be making till the end of life, and I know I won’t ever tire of it.

Meditation has been a focus of mine, and has changed me from the inside out. Living life in the belief that what happens in our life (hard and incredible) is all FOR us, teaching us and shaping us into vessels that can contain many things at once, with the ability to see it from a place of perspective.

In my heart and mind, that is what meditation has given me. Perspective. The ability to see myself from the outside - not the spiraling inside - and therefore without changing my circumstance, I can still change my entire EXPERIENCE of that same circumstance. HOW POWERFUL.

How do we see our experience? How do we see the world and our connection to it? When we look, are we really SEEING?

We walk on the edge of the biggest lake in the world here created by glaciers. Do we SEE the 2 billion year old rocks for what they are? Do we hold them in our hand and feel their stories? What would the hard in life be like if it was balanced by SEEING?

That is why I believe that our my entire soul that artists are so incredibly important to the human experience. We document and create from our true “Seeing” and we share that with others in ways they can surround themselves with that in a tangible way.

How can we not think of our neighbor when we surround ourselves with objects made by human hands? What is more important than that today?

I came back to the Big Lake & the fulfilling life I live here a new being. The forced sabbatical from making ceramics I didn’t know I needed, made me re-realize my identity apart from being an artist, apart from ceramics, apart from being a mom, and apart from the person I’ve become to be known as in my hometown of Grand Marais.

Something that makes me love a place deeply are the different parts of us that surface naturally when there. We are complex beings - way more complex in fact than the labels we use. The labels are the smallest fraction of us, and I have come to realize in my own life, can be used to confine us.

It’s a time in my life where I want to live free-
Denouncing labels and living without those boundaries and parameters.
I move to the beat of my own drum-
I dance
I set boundaries
Wear cheeky bikini’s & red lipstick
Have meaningful joy from wiping little food filled faces & butts amidst other mundane tasks
Start a new career/hobby
Use other mediums than clay to make art
I can change the direction of my life path whenever I want

I spent my mornings in Costa Rica watering the thirsty dry season lime trees lining our property. A rather beautiful way to spend a morning - thinking & doing. It is ever so beautiful experiencing life in two places. For us, living between Minnesota & Costa Rica has been:
rewarding
logistically challenging
sparked tons of growth
filled our hearts
Missed people/places

It’s been a dream of ours for a long while to actually LIVE both lives, and we are, and it is a dream…
AND life is still life and “Life-ing” no matter where you are.

I’ve allowed the transition from Costa Rica to Minnesota to happen so gently this spring. Probably the most lovingly had transition of my life, and although I feel guilty at times, I am so proud of myself for that. For taking care and for not overdoing when everything was telling me to.

I am full blown back now, but as a newly whole version of me. The productivity has gone down, but the new ideas are in full bloom as are the wildflowers, and I am so excited to share next steps with you.

All my love in abundance I send to you!

I am an innate DREAMER 🌙
Ideas always swirling - never bored.
The sky’s the limit and then some,
We haven’t even scratched the surface.

When my twin daughters were born, I started filling sketchbooks chalk full of ideas of what I would make when I had the capacity to again.
I wrote in those sketchbooks during their naps, before bed, or if they were busy eating contained inside their high chairs 😅.

Being a dreamer is activating, hopeful, and exhausting.
Flooding ideas spilled out onto the sketchbook pages, and adrenaline pumped faster to get the ideas on paper before they disappearing into thin air.
I would one day translate them into some sort of medium —
A physical representation of the ethereal
The other
The undone.

This work in the “Slow Down” collection is that.
Old & new sketches brought to life in physical form.
The use of objects brings depth, meaning, and ambiguity.
I pondered how they could change a room, and how the use will bring ambiance - igniting the senses.

I am a sun & moon dreamer Aquarius, and the grounded Ta**us rising. I literally take my crazy, grandiose ideas and physically create them out of EARTH! 🤯 guess the signs are pretty accurate 😅

Anyways, all of the pieces here in this post are available! They were born from dreams that then became ideas that then became sketches that then became physical representations of them.

See what I mean?
It’s exhaustingly beautiful to have dreams.
Weeks, months, and sometimes years of trial and error, but it all leads here.
To growing —
Being ok with making mistakes
Grace for self
Endurance
And the belief that we all
Contain magic.
