I’ve always wanted a Gibson Hummingbird. Something about that short scale dreadnaught has spoken to me every time I’ve played one in a store, but I never got the chance to pull the trigger on buying one. I’ve looked for plans at length with no luck, but have found snippets of info here and there. it’s time to do it the only way I can think of, pencil to paper. One LooseGoose short scale dread with a (hopefully) sunburst finish coming up!

Oh boy, This is the one that will change things from here on. So many different processes with this one than the past guitars (some things worked, some failed miserably), and so many little changes along the way to help with it ringing longer and louder. This is the first one that I truly used my ears and intuition to build instead of some measurements or thicknesses from a book, article, or advice on an Internet forum. You might say this is the first true LooseGoose guitar, and it sounds as good as anything I’ve played since I was a kid learning the big three chords in the sunroom at my aunt and uncles house.

One last good polish session on everything and some fresh strings and this guitar is in the books! Can’t wait to send this out and get some feedback from its new owner!

Oh my my, these guitars are getting good! I may just have to start building another..

Looks like Someone learned how to French Polish over the last few months! This OO build has being on going on for quite some time and I’m completely ok with the timeline. Every single step of the way I’ve tried a new way of doing things than my previous guitars, even now with the finish. I really think this will be the best sounding one yet, actually I’m certain of it!

This one has been a long time coming, but this OO is ready for some final sanding and finish!

Doing some fretwork this morning and This guy is starting to get curious in the garage where the magic happens.. Although he is probably just thinking there is human food out here. Guitar dog Murphy….

I have really been slacking on this thing lately, but the neck is attached and today this guitar gets a 16” fretboard radius. Fretting the neck will be shortly after. It’s slow, but it’s progress…

Holy wood removal Batman! This saw rasp is legit at rough carving a neck. I Highly recommended this as an alternative to a spokeshave (which has its own finicky little nuances that sometimes make it not ideal to use). I Don’t need to worry about direction of stroke vs grain anymore, the sharpness of the spoke shave, cutting too deep, clogging up the spokeshave, etc., etc., etc…..
The only down side I can see so far is that a mask and dust extraction is needed. It gets messy fast! Love this thing, best 20 bucks spent in a long time!

Cutting the last fret slot for the fretboard of this OO guitar. I have always cut these by hand but have decided this time to try and get more accuarate with a marking knife and some super professional mohagany guides. It works extremely good although a little time consuming setting it up on every slot. I must admit that this is the 3rd fingerboard I’ve built for this guitar so far (yep, I ruined two of them!) before realizing I had written down some bogus fractions while converting from decimals to 64th’s before marking them all out. It doesn’t matter how beautiful a guitar looks if it will never play in tune, right? I”ll be double checking and triple checking from now on before I break out the fret saw.

Just getting the first coat of pore fill on the sides and back while coming up with various excuses in my head to purchase a router table to make alot of the steps to build a neck easier and more accurate. I’m up to about 6 or 7. I fully expect to be there by the end of the day. Happy Saturday….
