A LITTLE CASSETTE HISTORY!

Before streaming, before CDs took over, and long before we carried thousands of songs in our pockets, there was the compact cassette.

The format was developed by Lou Ottens and his team at Philips in 1962 and introduced to the public in 1963. Originally designed for dictation, the cassette quickly became something much bigger.

In 1979, Sony introduced the Walkman, changing how we listened to music on the go. By the 1980s, cassettes were everywhere. Mixtapes, boomboxes, car stereos, and recording songs off the radio became part of music culture.

CDs and digital music eventually pushed tapes aside, but cassettes never disappeared completely. Today, artists, independent labels, and collectors are bringing them back.

There’s just something special about popping in a tape, pressing play, and enjoying music the old-school way.

FREE LIVE MUSIC AT TRIPLE PLAY RECORDS — THIS SATURDAY!

Come hang out with us Saturday, October 17, from 12–2 PM for a FREE live show with David Gideon!

Bringing together traditional country, folk, and Americana, David Gideon delivers an old-school honky-tonk sound with gritty, autobiographical storytelling and a whole lot of character. His music draws from the timeless sounds of Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Hank Williams Sr., and Johnny Cash.

After a life spent traveling, working as a ranch hand, and finding inspiration throughout the American West and Southwest, Gideon brings those experiences to life through songs rooted in the spirit of classic country and Western storytelling.

Grab a friend, stop by Triple Play Records, dig through some records, and spend your Saturday with us enjoying some great live music.

Good things take time, but MAN have we wanted this one BAD! We’re beyond excited to finally say that TRIPLEPLAYRECORDS.COM IS COMING SOON!!

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring Triple Play Records to you online, and this is just the beginning!

Here’s a taste of what’s coming:

And for all you used record hunters out there, WE HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN ABOUT YOU! Our full used inventory won’t be available right away, but we’re working toward getting it online over the next six months.

This is a HUGE step forward for our little record store, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Whether you’re down the street or across the country, we want to make it easier than ever to bring a little Triple Play Records into your life.
