TBT: The year was 2010 and it was the first show GILT produced as a permanent resident at College Park. Construction had finished on the addition to the Hornady Auditorium, adding a Box Office, storage for set building materials, props, costumes painting supplies and green rooms for make-up, hair dressing and costume changes.
The show was “You Can’t Take It With You”, directed by Brian Gibson, a screwball comedy about a girl from a large, free-thinking family who falls in love with the son of a wealthy, dignified family. The wealthy family doesn’t know what to think about the girl’s unorthodox family as the couple wants desperately for the two clans to coexist. It was a large and fun cast to work with including some GILT audience favorites: Coree Sattley, Mitzi Stinson, Wayne Menke, Mike Flaherty and Wendy Carlson.

Tuesday Theatre Terminology: Blocking

Blocking is figuring out where the actors move and stand during a scene.

So… what happens during blocking rehearsals? A little stopping. A lot of trying. Plenty of “Wait… where do I go?” 😂 Figuring out entrances, exits, movement, and all the little details that bring a show to life!

SEARCHING FOR HISTORIC GILT PHOTOS TO COMPLETE OUR DIGITAL LIBRARY
TBT: The photos I’ve posted the last few weeks are the result of a dedicated volunteer named Herchel Graber. Hersch was a kind and gentle man who made people feel welcome and appreciated. By day, he worked for Lumbard Leschinsky’s, a photography and art supply store in downtown Grand Island. By night, Hersch acted and worked behind the scenes in many GILT productions, taking photographs along the way. He donated his slides and negatives to GILT, which span from our origin in 1960 to 1987. Hersch passed away in 2015 and granted, did not work on every show in that time frame so naturally there are holes in our library and some shows have no photos. But for what we have, let’s all give thanks to Herschel for his time and energy and mostly… the memories.
