Our final show of our upcoming season will be the classic comedy, YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU. This production will be directed by Robin Beebee. With a large cast of characters we are welcoming so many to audition. Auditions will take place on February 22-23, 2027 with callbacks on the 24th. The show will be performed on April 23, 24, 30 and May 1, 2.

Grandpa Vanderhof lives “just around the corner from Columbia University – but don’t go looking for it.” Grandpa is the paterfamilias of an extended, loving and eccentric family which includes a daughter who fancies herself a romance novelist; her husband, an amateur fireworks expert; a xylophone player/leftist leaflet printer; an untalented ballerina; a couple on relief; and a ballet master exiled from Soviet Russia. When Grandpa’s granddaughter Alice, an attractive and loving girl who is still embarrassed by her family’s eccentricities, falls for her boss, Tony, a handsome scion of Wall Street, she fears that their two families – so unlike in manner, politics, and finances – will never come together. And that’s when the fireworks begin...

During a disastrous dinner party, Alice’s worst fears are confirmed. Her prospective in-laws are humiliated in a party game and the house is raided by the FBI. Frustrated and upset, Alice intends to run away to the country, until Grandpa and Co. – playing the role of Cupid – manage not only to bring the happy couple together, but to set Tony’s father straight about the true priorities in life. After all, why be obsessed by money? You can’t take it with you…

Our 3rd production for our upcoming season the comedic drama THE CEMETERY CLUB.

Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life; Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun; and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. He meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave. Doris and Lucille squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida. They are guilt-stricken when this nearly breaks Ida’s heart. The Broadway production starred Eileen Heckart as Lucille. It was made into a film, starring Ellen Burstyn, Dianne Ladd and Olympia Dukkakis.

This heart felt and hilarious show will host auditions on December 14-15 with callbacks on the 16th. The show will run February 19, 20, 26, 27, & 28.

Our second show of our upcoming season is the tale of a boy and his obsession with a BB Gun. We are excited to announce our holiday show this year will be A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL. The holiday classic will be brought to our stage with fantastic songs and hilarity. The auditions for this show will take place on October 19-20th with callbacks on the 21st and the show will run December 11, 12, 18, 19 & 20. Mark your calendars now to be a part of this wonderful musical.

Central Park Players are excited to begin announcing our 68th season. Over the next few days, we will reveal a season we are proud of and thrilled to begin. Our fall production will be William Shakespeare’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. The classic comedy will come to life being directed by Adam Bell. The auditions for this show will take place on August 24th-25th with possible callbacks on the 26th. The show will open on October 16 and continue on the 17th, 23rd, 24th, and 25th.

We are saddened to share that we will not be producing a family show this summer due to extenuating circumstances, but we are looking forward to creating more wonderful opportunities to our young performers in the future.
