🌊 The Otter That Almost Broke Me (But Didn’t)

I’ve made quite a few pieces over the last several months to a year, but this otter… whew. It took forever and took multiple attempts to get it right. Probably the hardest thing I’ve made to date, but I’m super happy with how it turned out.

The gal who commissioned and bought this piece is actually the one who inspired me to expand beyond my original flowers. She’s believed in my work from the start — and this otter is for her grandson, while the shell sandals are for her daughter. When she came to pick everything up today, she even decided to grab another one of my flower pieces.

I’m working on making more and thinking about doing a craft show later this fall. If you have ideas for something you’d love me to create — shells, driftwood, sea glass combos — reach out. We can talk options and pricing.

Driftwood Days & Summer Pauses”

Hey friends 💙 it’s been a minute, hasn’t it? Summer kind of swept me up — and not just with sunshine. The heat always makes my health a bit trickier to manage, and this year’s been especially tough with some new things popping up that I’m still figuring out. So I’ve been quieter than usual, doing little bits here and there when I can, but definitely not at my usual pace.

I had been trying to work on that commission otter (and bless the client for no timeline!) — but let’s just say I’ve gone through a few canvases and ideas trying to find the right way to bring it to life. So lately, I decided to make something I knew I could finish and feel good about.

🐬 I turned back to driftwood and shells — my comfort zone — and made a dolphin piece that I think my fellow coastal art lovers might enjoy. Maybe it’ll catch someone’s eye and find a new home.

Here are a few of my latest little projects — mirrors, hearts, and a tabletop piece with a beach-found rock that looked just like a heart to me. I couldn’t resist turning it into something sweet.

I’m also starting to think ahead to a fall craft show, so these might be the start of that collection. Would love to hear what you think — which ones speak to you?

Tide Dreamers-

It took me a while to decide how I wanted to complete his orca — how to shape it so it carried that deep, quiet calm he moves through life with.

Tonight, it finally rose into place on his side of the room.
Deep traveling blues, storm‑touched driftwood, and that steady, unhurried ease… the kind of presence that doesn’t rush or demand attention, just floats along the way he does. A piece that feels like it’s wandered through long waters, learning peace from every wave.

Across from him, my mermaid drifts softly on my side, just a shimmer in the corner — a small touch of the dreamer in me that’s always reaching for more.And now, with both pieces finally standing together, the room feels complete.

His calm. My tide. Two different spirits settling into one shared water.Driftwood, moonlight, wild blue dreams — a little coastal fairytale glowing softly in the dark 💙✨

🌊Wandering Melody🎸🎶🌊

The secret I hinted at earlier this week is finally finished — meet “Wandering Melody.”

This isn’t a flat piece… it’s a fully dimensional driftwood guitar sculpture, shaped from wood gathered along the shores of Lake Michigan and tiny shells carried home from Florida. Two places that have held me, lifted me, and reminded me to breathe.

I chose the name “Wandering Melody” because that’s exactly what this piece feels like to me — the rhythm of long shoreline walks, the quiet songs that steady my heart, and the gentle way God meets me in those drifting, peaceful moments. Creating pieces like this is where I feel that same peace. And seeing people pause, smile, or connect with my art… that’s the part that fills me up.

This one is perfect for that beach‑loving, guitar‑playing, laid‑back soul — the person who feels the rhythm of the waves and the melody of life all at once.

My piece didn’t get chosen this time, but my heart’s still really full. Seeing it up on that wall felt so surreal — just a sweet reminder of how far I’ve come this year. I’ve poured so much of myself into this art, and I’m genuinely proud of it. Not every ‘no’ is a loss… some are just quiet steps forward. Having my friends and family there to support me meant the world. And it’s still up for viewing during the Ottawa County Area Art Trust Exhibit that runs through Sept 3. It is located at the Ottawa County Administration Building, 12220 Fillmore Street in West Olive, — even if it sells before then, which I’m praying it does.
