The Empire Arts Center is a non-profit, multi-purpose facility located in downtown Grand Forks, North Dakota. Renovated in 1998, the Empire is a circa 1919 movie house renovated into a multi-use theatre and gallery facility. The Empire Arts Center hosts a variety of theatre productions, performing arts events, films, concerts, speakers, community events, graduation parties, weddings, and meetings

throughout the year. Art Gallery hours: Thursdays from 2-7, Saturdays from 9-2, and by appointment

The Empire Arts Center promotes culture and lifelong learning by producing its own artistic programming while providing a distinctive, welcoming venue for the arts, businesses, and community of the upper Red River Valley.

This weekend at the Empire we have 3 exciting events to present! Friday night, get a good laugh with returning comedy group Moms Unhinged. On Saturday, we have a double header starting with a showing of the classic family movie "An American Tail" at 1PM, followed by our monthly Empire's Music Box starting at 7PM with an open-to-the-public jam and 3 local music acts to follow!

Bravo to J.R. Simplot Co. Foundation and the City of Grand Forks - Government Arts Re-grant for co-producing The Wizard of Oz - Musical this fall!

The Church of Cash Johnny Cash Tribute Show is coming up on Saturday, June 6! This World-Class Johnny Cash Tribute Act returns to The Empire! Church of Cash has played thousands of shows across the U.S. and Europe, earning praise for their spot-on musicianship, stage presence, and reverence for the source material. In 2019 and 2021, they were voted Best Tribute Band by the Midwest Country Music Organization, and Jay Ernest was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2021.

Couldn't make it to our latest Empire's Music Box? No problem! We are excited to announce our next monthly Empire Music Box, presented by Rydell GMC, will be held June 13th at 7pm in Studio E like usual. This month will feature artists that are local to the Red River Valley area, including Cody Verret (Fargo), Matt Pinkard (Grand Forks), and Chris Erickson (Fargo). There will also be an open-to-the-public jam at the start of show. If you're interested in live, local music, the Music Box is the place to be! Come for the music, stay for the good vibes (and the free popcorn).

Doors open at 6:00 PM, open-jam starts at 7:00 PM

The Music Box is one of the only venues in Grand Forks that allows artists to play what they want, and our Music Box stage helps to give any musician a platform to perform, regardless the genre or experience.

Have you ever wanted to spend the night in a haunted theater?

For one night only, The Empire is offering a limited number of participants ages 21 and up, to spend the night at the Historic Empire Arts Center!

Sleepover Tickets are $115

Ticket includes a movie night, karaoke, games, tour of the building, as well as pizza and breakfast in the morning and a commemorative T-shirt. Bar and NA drinks provided for the night!

What to bring:

Sleeping bag, pillow, comfy clothes, your favorite stuffed animal, and an overnight kit.
