Again -- our hearts are full with the support that our little play received. Thanks, again, to all who came out to see The Cream of Wheat Caper: A melodrama on the Red River, the volunteers - Debra Pflughoeft-Hassett, Dawn Common Moe, Alyssa Donacki, LJ Neppel, Martha Keifenheim, Mare Thompson, and Christus Rex Lutheran Center for a rehearsal space, and Empire Arts Center for loaning props. Shout out to Leah Byzewski at the Myra Museum for being a perfect host. WE LOVE HISTORY!

We were so fortunate to have such an excellent cast: Ryan King (also directing and on keyboard), Veronica Lee Folkedahl, Koby Kaiser, Braelynn Schroeder, Sonakshi Singhal, and Gregory Allen Jones, with original puppets made by Oliver Hebert. Dionysius surely smiled on this production!

We believe that even so-called "amateur" artists should receive some monetary recognition for their time, talent, and commitment. Many thanks to the City of Grand Forks - Government and the support of the Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Region for providing those funds. (We are certain the artists will spend their modest honorarium in the community!) And to the audiences -- thank you for your enthusiastic response! Mayor Griggs of GF, Nils, and Rob M. Blind enjoy a pint of milk at the Milk Bar in The Cream of Wheat Caper: A melodrama on the Red River . North Dakota entered the Union as a dry state in 1889, 20 years before national prohibition and the ratification of the 18th Amendment. In 1932, ND "joined several other states that voted to remove its constitutional prohibition of alcohol. But just because it was removed from the constitution doesn't mean the prohibitions were absent from state law, and since federal prohibition also remained in effect, removing prohibition from the state constitution had little immediate effect. [However,] in 1933 the brew did indeed become available as voters made weak 3.2 percent b**r legal. Then in 1936, they voted to legalize liquor, though some counties remained "dry" until 1947."

It has been fascinating researching the songs we are using in the show, all in public domain, all prior to 1900. Ryan King, music and stage director, has offered his expertise in song selection.
