The autumnal equinox is coming to the UMass Sunwheel. I wrote a new song for it, “The Turning Line,” built around equal light, equal night, the turning Earth and our place in the circle.

UMass Amherst astronomers will lead hour-long discussions during the events to explain the celestial cause of the sun’s changing position. The astronomers will describe the seasonal positions of Earth, the sun and moon, while answering public questions about astronomy. I wrote a song about it.

This is not a political anthem, but a human one. A tribute to a people who have endured through centuries of upheaval, who still plant and harvest, sing and mourn, resist and survive.
Let the trees speak. Let the hills sing. Let the heart remember.
