A lots on my mind.
NEED YOUR HELP TO CONTINUE.
I wrote the below response to a social media post I saw by a long time local OLDHAM COUNTY musician. It rang as wrong to me as what I am experiencing from the code enforcement agency of Oldham County.
“Many of you are familiar with “The Back Porch Concerts” my wife and I have put on at our 12 acre property in Skylight 4-5 times each summer.
After nine years of NOT A SINGLE COMPLAINT OR ISSUE OF ANY KIND, the County Code enforcement officers overseen by YOUR County Judge David Voegele, came unannounced to our front door in Skylight and informed me that I must no longer invite the community to attend unless I obtain a “special permit”.
This permit requires a $500.00 fee, over 100 pages of documentation, plus court appearances, surveys, mailings etc. Effectively shutting us down & shutting the community shut out.
This event is on a rural 12 acre private property, not in any city, we charge nothing , sell nothing , make nothing, and invite a local non profit to each event to set up a table of info.
Bring a lawn chair & listen to some good local music in our backyard,Period.
It’s a church picnic vibe of mainly Bluegrass, folk and rock music. Usually around 50-75 local people attend along with kids and pets.
I compel you to spread the word
on your social media and to anyone that finds issue
of how this agency in OUR county is conducting itself with the endorsement of the County Judge.
Please Contact friends, your local representatives & any media you may have a contact with.
With the divides crippling our Country these days , I cannot fathom a local government supporting the elimination of something like this.
We need your voice, Please help us continue.”
Sincerely,
Brad Steinfeld
