Goshen Players is pleased to announce auditions for Moon Over Buffalo by Ken Ludwig. Moon Over Buffalo is a madcap love letter to live theatre—where anything can go wrong, and usually does.

Show Synopsis:
In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me a Tenor, the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s. At the moment, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York. On the brink of a disastrous split-up, caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing, caused by Charlotte’s deaf, old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George’s body.

Audition dates:
Sunday, August 2nd at 6 PM and Monday, August 3rd at 7 PM. If needed callbacks will be Wednesday August 5th at 7 PM. All roles are open.

Character Breakdown:
Actors of all races, ethnicities, sizes, abilities, and genders (conforming and non-conforming) are highly encouraged to audition. The ages listed are approximate. Actors cast should be able to "play" these ages on stage.

GEORGE HAY – (Male presenting/50s-60s) A pompous actor with a flair for the dramatic, George finds himself having to juggle multiple women and multiple plays at the same time. A ham and an over-actor. Must be able to do strong physical comedy, including pratfalls, running, stage combat (fencing), etc.

CHARLOTTE HAY – (Female presenting/50s-60s) Charlotte is George’s wife, a much more practical person than the unsteady George but also possesses a stubborn and vindictive streak. She helps to run the acting troupe and plays all the leads even those for which she is a bit too old. Must be able to do an upper-class British accent.

ETHEL – (Female presenting/60s-80s) Charlotte’s mother. Performs all manner of odd jobs around the theatre while muttering to herself. Extremely hard of hearing. Should have huge stage presence and strong comedic skills.

ROSALIND – (Female presenting/20s-30s) George & Charlotte’s daughter. Grew up in the theatre and still has it running through her veins, but is trying to escape the endless drama of her parents’ theatrical circus and find a life that’s more ordinary. Must be able to do an upper-class British accent.

HOWARD – (Male presenting/20s-30s) Rosalind’s fiancé. A weatherman. Cheerful and upbeat but sorely lacking in personality. Must be able to do strong physical comedy.

EILEEN – (Female presenting/20s-30s) A young actress in George & Charlotte’s company. Had a fling with George. Takes the stage very seriously but is not incredibly mature and doesn’t handle adversity well.

PAUL – (Male presenting/20s-30s) Stage manager for George & Charlottes company. Rosalind’s ex-fiancé. Does the best he can to keep the machine running and keep the craziness in check. Must be able to do strong physical comedy.

RICHARD – (Male presenting/40s-60s) He is George and Charlotte's attorney, but he is in love with Charlotte - always trying to get her to leave George. He is wealthy and used to getting what he wants, and he is both amused and perplexed by the Hay family.
