• SUMMER OF STEAM • Monday, June 22 • Staunton meets historic Gordonsville when the legendary Norfolk & Western 611 brings a group of enthusiastic travelers for a special event here in Gordonsville.

Staunton is one of my favorite day trips and features unique independent businesses and great local restaurants with a similar welcoming vibe as Gordonsville - Main Street looks forward to hosting this special group!

The engine will be on display for photo opps & discovery near the Exchange Hotel for about 2 hours, starting around 12:20 p.

Join us along Main Street for lunch at one of our local restaurants and explore the shops while you're here! • We recommend Well Hung Vineyard Restaurant, Jackson & Co. Market, Barbecue Exchange, and the Gordonsville Ice House for lunch.
(Additional quick food options will be available near the Visitor Center.)

Parking: street parking. • Be prepared to walk a short distance. Gordonsville is super cute and you will love every step;)

On Monday, June 22nd, the legendary Norfolk & Western 611 pulls into town! Join us for lunch at one of our restaurants and watch the 611 in action as she begins to maneuver on the wye to prepare for her second round of Louisa-based excursions. Stop by the Town of Gordonsville’s Visitor Center (200 S. Main Street, Gordonsville, VA 22942) on the day for information, wayfinding, and more!

What makes this event special? Gordonsville grew alongside rail travel in Virginia, and this special excursion on the Virginia Scenic Railway is an opportunity to learn more about the Town’s history and traditions. Many shops and restaurants in the historic downtown area will be open special hours that day, and we look forward to welcoming passengers, rail fans, visitors, and locals alike.

The train carrying passengers from Staunton on 6/22, a 611 locomotive, was built in 1950. It is “the sole survivor of the ‘J-Class’ fleet — widely considered the pinnacle of steam technology,” according to the Virginia Scenic Railway. “With its iconic bullet-shaped nose and elegant Tuscan Red stripe, the 611 was designed to be both a workhorse and a beauty, capable of pulling passenger trains over the Blue Ridge Mountains at sustained high speeds. As a super-power locomotive, she is not just a machine; she is a living, breathing icon of American engineering.”

... how can it be June already?? Okay!

Welcome to summer! In Northern Germany, warm sunny weather is a very precious treat, so this is always my favorite season, no matter how hot!

The historic 611 engine is making a (hot) entrance in Gordonsville on 6/22 as part of the SUMMER OF STEAM - the gallery will be open 11 -3 that day, and all of Main Street is excited ~ and so are a lot of train fanatics! Be prepared for a busy day here.

Sadly, this means that we had to postpone our Mid Summer Art Walk (but: new date TBA!).

Usually, it's nice and quiet for us framers in the summer (think R&R) - but not this year. I'm excited to see that everyone is focusing on creating really meaningful pieces and investing in great art to enjoy this year ~ plus:
our studio was recently selected for a new collab with an RVA curator who creates walls that share art with beautiful humans who can really use inspiration and happiness. I love being a part of that!

Let's see, what else ... the gallery is freshly stocked with new art for you, and we are chatting with new artists for more inspiration for our walls. - I've really taken some time to frame everything beautifully and mindfully so that you can just take things home - right off the wall.

Quick reminder: Don't stash those diplomas and photographs: Frame them and show them off!

Now that summer is here, so are Gordonsville's many travelers and tourists.
This is a reminder that Cavallo's priority is our creative clientele (e.g. our custom framers). To make sure that we can spend uninterrupted time designing your art and to avoid client overlap, please remember to schedule an appointment in advance.

☆ Happy May! (Where did April go??) ☆ Thank you all for an amazing, super-fast spring so far - May is for graduations, small weekend road trips, a lot of new art on our walls ... and a strong focus on production here in the studio after prioritizing the gallery last month.

Thank you for making April and our small-but-mighty spring Art Walk so special: we all loved meeting so many new faces and seeing all of our long-time favorites here. ☆ I'm starting to work on our mid-summer Art Walk now!

I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for coming out on this chilly Sunday to celebrate and support art & friendship at our second art walk on Historic Main Street.
We all had an amazing time! - (A big special thanks to our artists and our friends at Town to Trail who braved the cold right outside of the gallery here.)

Thanks to The Annie Gould Gallery for being a fabulous co-host!
And thanks to our great neighbors who joined us in also hosting their favorite artists!

Every one of these art walks makes our lives a little more joyful & beautiful, so we will absolutely do it again soon ~ we really appreciate you all!
