Juneteenth Family Fest

Juneteenth Family Fest Juneteenth Family Fest Charleston 2026 is the largest culture and community celebration in the lowcountry. It demonstrates the long, enduring fight for freedom.

This is a ticketed event for the public anticipating 15,000+ guests to be in attendance. Celebrating Juneteenth in Charleston, South Carolina as a large-scale event is significant to our heritage and who we are as a people. As of June 17th, 2021 Juneteenth is now celebrated throughout the United States annually on the 19th of June, as a federal holiday. Juneteenth pays tribute and celebrates the j

ourney to freedom, the contributions, ingenuity, and sacrifices that were made by those who came before us. Charleston has an abundantly rich black history due to its Gullah Geechee roots and because nearly half of enslaved Africans (Afrikans) brought to America came through Charleston, and nearly 80 percent of African-Americans can potentially trace an ancestor who arrived in Charleston. Juneteenth is a pivotal milestone in African American history. On Saturday, June 17, 2023, we will kick off our 3rd Annual Juneteenth Family Fest! This community-family-based event will take place at the Riverfront Park in North Charleston, SC, and is open and free to the public. You can arrive as early as 2 pm, and festivities will begin at 3 pm. This day-long celebration will be power-packed with activities ranging from live performances, black art displays, games for children, and delicious cultural food! There will also be non-profit organizations, local community service vendors, as well as Historical Black Colleges and Universities on site. This joyous occasion will be topped off with a grand fireworks show finale that will be worth watching with your family and friends! We’re asking the community to come out and celebrate where we’ve come from, as we look forward to where we are heading and what we desire to accomplish.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A true activist, hero, leader and pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement. Let this be more than a day OFF but a day ON to reflect, remember, and reengage.

During Dr. King's visit to the Low-country in 1967, he passionately told the crowd not to burn down their communities but to “build, baby, build.” In 2025, let's keep his dream in mind and continue to build and support the black community of Charleston.

We're grateful for family, friends, and the freedom to celebrate!

This Thanksgiving, we're extra thankful for the community Juneteenth Family Fest has built. Every year, we have a day filled with joy and laughter while filling a beautiful space with beautiful black faces.

As Oprah Winfrey once said, 'Family is everything. And it's important to take every opportunity you can to create strong, positive relationships with the people you love.'

Happy Thanksgiving, and tell someone you love them today!

Happy Juneteenth from Passion Project Initiative and the Juneteenth Family Fest team!

Today, we celebrate more than just freedom. We celebrate the resilience, strength, and joy of the Black community. Juneteenth commemorates June 19th, 1865, the day enslaved people in Texas finally received word of the Emancipation Proclamation, marking the official end of slavery in the United States.

Though freedom came late, Juneteenth became a day of jubilation, a testament to the enduring spirit of a people who never gave up hope. This past Saturday at the Juneteenth Family Fest, we felt that spirit all around us! The music, the food, the laughter – it's a reminder of the vibrant culture Black communities have built and continue to share with the world.

But Juneteenth also reminds us that the fight for true equality continues. Let's use this day to reflect on how we, as a community, can work together to build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Here are some questions to spark conversation:

* What does Juneteenth mean to you?
* How can we continue to celebrate Black history and culture year-round?
* What can we do to create a more just and equitable community for all?

Let's keep the spirit of Juneteenth alive, not just today, but every day.
