Laughing Lady Art A page for the sharing of my traditional media art and commission infor. Pet & wildlife portraiture.

I am a hobby/amateur artist, predominantly self taught but with some formal education and training in drawing and illustration. I work primarily in wildlife and pet portraiture (realism/hyper-realism), though I also dabble a little in landscape scenery and realistic fantasy. I am foremost a traditional medium artist, with graphite and pastel pencil being my heavy preference; however I am slowly dipping my toes into the digital art waters.

I've been watching Chris play Starfield (good lord do the creatures on those planets make good inspiration for some weird abominations) a lot lately, while permitting myself to do little concept speed doodles. This is completely and totally out of my normal realm of artistic style, expertise, and comfortability. I am not an illustrator. I create life-like creatures from real life images/references. However, during these little exercises, I absolutely forbid myself to even attempt realism of any kind (Not even using my pencils, just alcohol markers and a white gel pen). It's been a fun little way of pushing myself outside my strict, hyper-realism box of perfection while practicing a medium I don't normally use.

It also took me 4 minutes vs 4 weeks πŸ˜…. Don't ask me what this is, I have no f****ng idea!

Real talk:

It hurts my soul that I have been unable to attend any of my craft shows/fairs this year. That is where 95% of my art commissions are generated from - with the remining 5% being referrals from friends/family. This is the first year in nearly 4 years of having a side art business. that I have made less than 3 sales (total), since January. In truth, I have only made one sale. It's not about the money for me. It never has been, nor will it ever be. It's more about how I see myself. It's more about validation and identity... and... perhaps maybe...purpose?

I have a full-time job. I am not relying on income from making art. But I am human. It does make me wonder if I am doing something wrong. If I have lost my "touch", or if it is worth it to continue to make it (supplies are expensive. I can keep making art for me, of course, but doing it with regularity requires cost validation/offset). I am, admittedly, a bit surprised that no one has shown any interest in my one-and-only open slot for the forseeable future.

It plays into my fear that once the baby is born, I will lose my identity as an artist completely. Silly, I know, but it is a real anxiety of mine.

Thank you for listening to the insecure confessions of a pregnant lady.

I still have ONE (1) commission slot open for the holiday season, before I close commissions to welcome my daughter into the world.
If you've been thinking about commissioning a piece from me, now is the time, as I cannot promise when the next time might be!

A little more progress on the yeen this afternoon. Im truly embarrassed as to how long I've been working on this personal project. What usually takes me two weeks to complete when working on a commission, has gone on for almost 2 months now. πŸ«£πŸ˜…

The TDaP vaccine I got at my prenatal appointment yesterday is kicking my butt today (normal - mild fever and body aches). So, the bump and I stayed home for some R&R + drawing time. 🩷
