This is where it all began: the GE CG9906 HQ Movie Video System, which was a Christmas present to my grandmother from my grandfather in 1989. Shoulder mounted, b&w viewfinder, and used full size that went from camera to VCR with no adapter. I was lovingly assigned by Nana to “run this thing” and it sparked a whole new kind of creativity in me. In an age before I was strapping this to my radio controlled car, interviewing every family member, and getting POV on the snowmobile. Run n’ gun! I recorded candid and rare moments of my life with it until 2003, when I moved on to a Canon ZR60 miniDV camcorder. This camera was a tank and it still works today! If you’re looking for 80s VHS vibe, we can go right to the source with this classic. I have a lot of love for this camera (and Nana!) and the potential it provided me. There’s a good possibility that I captured you with this camera if you knew me 35 years ago…
