How does my work sit in relationship to the history of plein air and contemporary art on rocky neck? This piece was made during my Goetteman Artist residency this past November 2025 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, at the Rocky neck art colony. The underpinning of the work was made outside, and in this case, created at 10 pound island using ink, seaweed rocks and seawater. My husband, Rick Miles, droped me off on his way to our sailboat, Artemis , and I spent the day out in Gloucester Harbour making art with the ocean, waves, sand and vegetation. Lastly, I bring the work back to the studio and collage on other pieces that I have made during the same day. It is abstract, and also partly Zen practice, and plein air all combined into one!
