Happy belated Superman Day!
I feel like the current design of Superman’s costume is pretty run of the mill. So I was like f**k it, I’ll redesign it myself! Plus I don’t have to deal with any editors or 100 years of continuity.
Was hoping to have it posted on (Sat) but I started the designs Thurs night at ten o’clock. Drew and colored Superman on Friday but it took the rest of the weekend to figure out the background 😬. It came out kinda boring and the orange sky on top was prob a mistake. I’d like to have that back.
For the costume design, I love asymmetry, so I quickly settled on a toga 😝 (seemed to fit in with Wonder Woman’s many new outfits - plus I adore her current Tattoo design so I borrowed that too.) I wanted a billowy cape to draw all the folds and drapery of the absurdly detailed Greek statues. (Which I think was unsuccessful 😐) Added sandals and the elbow cuffs (for something a little unique) I had imagine him with a weapon (Batman got an Axe so why not!) I figured a pike but it didn’t seem to fit into the drawing. Lastly I took a little of Ryu’ black Gi from Street Fighter to tie it all together with a little Asian influence.
