The Hyde Collection combines the intimacy of an historic house with the sophistication of a larger art museum complex. The Museum's founders, Louis and Charlotte Hyde, amassed a permanent collection consisting of approximately 4,000 items ranging from works on paper, sculpture, furniture, and tapestries to Old Master paintings (Botticelli, Rembrandt and Rubens), important American artists (Bellows, Eakins, Hassam, Homer, Vedder and Whistler) and Modern and Contemporary works (Kelly, Warhol, Albers and more). The Hyde Collection strives to be widely recognized as one of the preeminent small fine arts museums in the Northeastern United States, celebrated for its distinguished collections of European and American art, old masters and modern and contemporary art, dynamic educational and cultural programming, energetic collaboration with other forward-thinking organizations, and the memorable experiences it consistently creates for visitors in its welcoming and inclusive environment.

Monsters are the ultimate playground for imagination – and this month, you can find them at The Hyde!

Local artist Dave Globerson will lead an interactive workshop on October 25 from 10 am - 12 pm where students will learn the fundamentals of creature design and build their own original monsters. Through a blend of visual instruction and quick sketching exercises, participants will explore how to take different aspects from nature and apply them to their own creatures. All ages and abilities are welcome!

Create your own beautiful autumn landscape in our next Painting with Patrice workshop!

On October 17 from 2:30 - 4:30 pm, participants will receive step-by-step instruction in acrylic painting. Everyone will walk away with an individual painting and a desire to continue to explore this medium.

The inspiration for this session’s composition is the work of artist Gustaf Fjaestad, a Swedish painter who captured the unique northern landscapes of Sweden.

On Screen @ The Hyde continues on October 17 with one of literature’s most haunting tales of power, guilt, and consequence.

Two of opera’s most extraordinary artists return to The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD for Verdi’s thrilling take on “Macbeth,” the immortal Shakespearean tale of the scheming couple determined to seize power at any cost. Following past triumphs in many of Verdi’s signature baritone roles, Quinn Kelsey is the Scottish king haunted by the ghosts of his murderous ascent to the throne, opposite Lise Davidsen—the world’s reigning dramatic soprano—as the power-mad Lady Macbeth, whose ruinous ambition damns them both.

Arrive early at 12:30pm for an exclusive, 15-minute preview presented by The Sembrich, featuring their staff and special guests.

Experience Grim: The Musical on October 10 or 11 at The Hyde Collection. Join us for a spooky comedy-drama written by Neal Herr that takes you on a wild journey through death, the afterlife, and teenage zombie mischief!

Set to the dramatically moody music of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms, this unique show follows Owen as he navigates a strange underworld filled with "The Ghouls"—mischievous adolescent zombies who love nothing more than scaring visiting mortals.

Our next Art After Hours event is in ONE WEEK on October 15, and a special guest will be joining us!

In conjunction with her solo exhibition “Book of Miracles” at The Hyde, artist Tanya Marcuse will speak on her epic three-part photographic project inspired by the sixteenth-century “Augsburg Book of Miracles,” an illustrated manuscript documenting extraordinary natural phenomena, celestial events, and signs and wonders. She will discuss her elaborate processes in the outdoor studio and the field, the development of the project, and the ways her work engages with an imperiled natural world and the environmental crisis of our present moment.

Hyde members, one free guest, and the general public are also invited to join us for a Member Mixer from 5 - 8 pm. Mingle with your fellow members, view the special exhibitions, and munch on light refreshments. Beverages courtesy of Northway Brewing Co.

On September 26, nearly 250 guests joined us for our largest Gala ever! This unforgettable evening honored the extraordinary impact of Jason and Heather Ward and celebrated new horizons for The Hyde and our community.

A wonderful dinner thanks to Farmacy, spirited live and silent auctions, an exhilarating Raise the Paddle, and dancing to live music made for an incredible night!

We are so thankful to our event partners and sponsors, and to our Honorary Co-Chairs Carl & Terry DeBrule and Mark Behan & Tara Hutchins for helping make the evening such a success.
