Week 1 of our Musical Theater Intensive: complete!

Our performers dug into using their whole body to act, sing, and dance, wrote their own monologues, explored hero vs. villain movement and motivation, and built confidence and audition-day tools along the way.

Introducing our final lead instructor for our new Musical Theater Intensive- Hero’s and Villains of Broadway- Kayla Toney!!!

Kayla has enjoyed working with local theater groups for more than 20 years. Favorite gigs include directing at GFCT, SLOC, and stage managing for GFHS theater ensemble. Onstage you may have seen her in Always Patsy Cline (Patsy) at the Wood or TSOM (Elsa) at HMT.

The Arts Academy is excited to announce our second lead instructor for this summer’s Musical Theater Intensive — Lucy Reid!

Lucy Reid has been dancing for as long as she can remember, beginning her training at Glens Falls Ballet and Dance Center and performing with Youththeatre and other local theater groups throughout her childhood. While attending Ithaca College, she danced and choreographed with two campus dance teams, further developing her passion for teaching and performance.
After college, Lucy taught dance at The Body Barre in Queensbury, where she led weekly classes for children ages 2–18 as well as adult dance classes. Lucy also is a part of the Body Barre adult dance team. She has also choreographed The Addams Family and Mean Girls for Lake George High School's musical productions.
Lucy later worked as an occupational therapist before moving to Massachusetts, where she taught at a one-room, arts-integrated school. There, she incorporated music, theater, dance, and visual arts into daily learning while teaching preschool and elementary students and choreographing numerous performances and musicals. During her time in Massachusetts, she also performed and competed with an accomplished adult dance team.
Now back in the Glens Falls area, Lucy is thrilled to continue teaching dance and musical theater. Fresh off running a wonderful two-week music theater camp alongside her mom, Catherine Reid, she is excited to reunite with her for the Heroes & Villains camp at Saint Mary's Arts Academy. Lucy can't wait to meet this year's performers!

The Arts Academy at St. Mary's is THRILLED to introduce the first of our lead instructors for this years MUSICAL THEATER INTENSIVE- HERO'S AND VILLIANS. Catherine Reid!!!

Catherine Reid’s compositions include operas, musicals, oratorios, cabarets, instrumental and choral and dance pieces. Her music has been
performed throughout the USA. She has music directed over 100 musicals, many included children, as well as orchestrated/arranged
music in all styles. She has composed for the Glens Falls Symphony and the Hyde Collection and collaborated/worked with David Ives, Phyllis
Nagy, JK Simmons, Carly Simon, John Turturro, David Lang, Elizabeth Swados, Anthime Miller, Laura Roth and many others. Nearby Faraway,
her musical about Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O’Keeffe with libretto by Neal Herr, was produced in Lake George to sold out audiences. Her
opera Yellow Wallpaper (librettist Judith Lane) was produced at Peabody Conservatory. She was a music teacher at Lake George junior- senior high for 20 years. She is co-founder of the Coopers Cave Composer Consortium.

We at The Arts Academy are devastated to hear of the passing of Mickey Luce. Most recently, he designed the set for Xanadu Jr. and even came in a few days before production to work out a tricky technical issue. All our prayers are with the Luce family and friends at this time. Rest in Peace Mickey. 💔

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Mickey Luce. Many know him from Lake George Youtheatre where he built a community of young artists and creators that remain connected and working through GFCT projects even today. We were grateful to share his talents as a director on our stage and support the talented teams he led nearby at St. Mary's and LGHS. His reach and inspiration follows paths to professional musicians, Broadway performers, educators, and local arts advocates.

We share our deepest condolences with the Luce family during this time. 💙

We couldn't think of a more perfect day to announce the first of our 2026 Community Awards! Congratulations to our second ever Visionary of the Year - Ben Rowley!

Tonight, Ben's original musical Solstice makes its premiere on our Main Stage after selling out a staged reading in our Cabaret in 2023. We are deeply honored to be host of this new work through its life cycle and to have witnessed the work and Ben grow together within our four walls.

In addition to having written the Solstice Book and Score, Ben serves as Music Director at St. Mary's Church, Artistic Director of the Arts Academy at St. Mary's, Guest Artist at Theatre for Tots, Music Director, Conductor and Pit Musician for several local organizations including Broadway Upstate.

Ben is not only immensely talented and creative - he is making his mark on the local arts scene, advocating for and lifting up other artists along the way.

Each time Ben steps through the Wood Theater doors, its with an infectious energy of warmth and collaboration that we are so grateful for.

We are proud to call Ben a friend of the Wood and to present him with this award at our 'The Greatest Show (in Glens Falls)' Gala on Friday July 24th at The Queensbury Hotel.
