It was a lovely night honoring the recipients of the 2022 Thomas Midnight Pewitt Memorial Scholarship. Each of these deserving seniors will be attending various places after they graduate, but they all encompass the characteristics of promoting community, volunteerism and drive for achievement.

Our next recipient to introduce you to is Grace Castillo! During her high school career, She showed with her local 4-H club, She was also a member of Hollister FFA and took many AG classes. She’s finished high school with a 3.7 GPA and will be attending Cuesta College in the fall. She will be studying agriculture business with plans of transferring to Cal Poly University.

Our next recipient is Briana Colunga, graduated from Independence High School. She will be attending Bakersfield College to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also completed the Intro to Health Program through Career Technical Educational Center and will receive her certificate. Brianna has been involved with 4-H since she was five years old. She is a member of the California High School Rodeo Association (D9), California Junior Cowboys Association and Kern River Rodeo Association, where she competes in barrel racing, pole bending, goats and breakaway.

Our next graduate is Cassandra Ordaz of Arvin High School! Cassandra was a FFA Arvin chapter member for three years, and the chapter Vice President this last year during her time and will be heading to Cal State Bakersfield to study psychology!

Our next recipient is Jaida Melton! Graduating from Frontier High School, a long time student of FFA and junior rodeo participant, Jaida is going to Bakersfield College to transfer to a university to major in Agricultural Business or Animal Science!

Our next recipient to introduce you to is Maycee Knight! Maycee Knight is graduating from Frontier High School. During her 4 years at Frontier she was an avid member of the FFA and CHSRA even serving as the 2020 Miss California High School Rodeo Queen. Maycee is graduating with a 4.2 gpa and plans to attend Weatherford College and Tarleton State University to rodeo and also major in Ag Marketing.

Our next graduate is coming from Frontier High School, going to attend College of Southern Idaho in the Fall majoring in Ag Business and interning with a bovine embryologist! With an impressive resume of her own and big dreams it was an honor to recognize Samantha!

Our next recipient is a graduate of Stockdale High School, Jack Kaiser. From working on his family’s farm and ranch to playing 4 years of football and baseball, Jack will be taking his talents to Cal Poly SLO with a major in Agricultural Science!

The next recipient to introduce you to is Lindsay Magar of Garces Memorial High School! The graduating senior was the FFA President of her chapter and will be taking her talents to Oklahoma State University with a major in Agricultural Business!!

Our next recipient is Mallory Filkins from Bakersfield Christian High School! Mallory has participated in Basketball, Volleyball, and have been apart of both NHS and CSF throughout High School. She has been involved in 4-H for about 11 years, showing hogs and sheep. She will be attending Cal Poly SLO in the fall while majoring in Agriculture Communications. Congratulations Mallory!!

Let’s meet our 2021 recipients! Our first honoree we’ll introduce you to is Darcie Shugart! Graduating from North High School with an impressive resume and will be attending Cal Poly SLO with a major in History! Darcie is involved in the Interact Club, Got the Dot Club, CSF, the Spanish Honors Society, and FFA. Outside of school she has been involved in community theater and Ford Dream Builders. This year, Darcie will be receiving the 23rd District Congressional Merit Award! Congratulations to Darcie on all her accomplishments this year!
