Despite herbicide, frost, total yard neglect and a dog that destroys everything, this little red hollyhock is pushing through tonight, which just seems like a metaphor at this time. I hope you can also find some inspiration in the resiliency of my dwarf hollyhock!

I returned to Montana 12 years ago and quickly waded into the causes that spoke to my passions. I've been part of building a splash park, part of bringing great live music to town, part of staging plays.

Mostly, I've been charged with reporting the news as publisher of the Glendive Ranger-Review, and as of about 2 years ago, 6, 7 or 8 other newspapers.

I'm also being courted as the next president of Dawson Community College.

Now I am at a fork in the road between these twin passions.
