when’s the last time you heard a Hardanger fiddle in Glendive? maybe never? maybe only at Høstfest in Minot if you’ve been? come listen to Geoff play one at the at the Mud & Bone benefit concert for the Friends of Makoshika 🎻 in ONE WEEK.

Geoff will be featuring an 1898 Hardanger fiddle made by the famed fiddle-maker Gunnar Olafson Helland in Norway. Robert “Bud” Larsen, who attendees of Høstfest might know for his legacy of restoring the Hardanger fiddle’s sound to this region, is graciously lending us this fiddle. Hardanger fiddles sound like a small symphony under a single player’s chin. strung below the four strings a fiddler typically plays, Hardanger fiddles also have four ‘sympathetic’ strings vibrating on their own, leaving listeners enveloped in a cave-like resonance. in addition to their signature sound, Hardanger fiddles are known for their characteristic lion-head carvings and intricate mother-of-pearl inlay.

in TEN DAYS, come hear the new song we’ve written with you for Makoshika 🤎at the Mud & Bone benefit concert for the Friends of Makoshika.

a few weeks ago i asked people to submit their memories and words about their time in the Park. i’ve taken those generous outpourings of poetry and memory, and given it my best to craft it into this new tune. we’ll be closing the evening with it as we record it live for you. anyone who buys a ticket or makes a donation to the Friends through the website will receive notification when the song is officially released online.

this is the sound of a song being born. it’s a special thing to be given the ears, heart, and hands to let new songs go. when Geoff and I found this tune a few summers ago down by the Bell St. Bridge, we didn’t know where it wanted to go, just that it was longing to capture the experience of that light, that sky, those skeeters, that wild river, and that bridge spanning it all.

we hope to set another song free, co-written with you, for Makoshika. leave your Makoshika Memories at the link in the comments. then join us in concert on March 14 as we set it free.

The Concert for the Trees slated for Friday is moving indoors. Thanks to the generosity of our community and some uncertain weather, we'll be at the Playhouse instead.

Do join us if you need a moment, a breath, a quiet dark to comprehend what it means to see what we see right now when we look for our favorite tree.

It’s a wrap.

All good creations must decay to make room for the new. As is so for Harp & Sol, Augmeanted’s musical folktale about the Harp Spider at the center of all things weaving her melodies for Sun with String.

One million heart-thumping thanks to everyone who supported the show’s development at Region 2 Arts Council, Aurora Center For The Arts, Cate Belleveau at Wild Rose Theater, the Armory Arts & Events Center, John @ Pinnacle Marketing, and Brian @ Paul Bunyan Broadcasting.

Deepest gratitude to those of you who walked to the edge of imagination with us each night in the audience, right into the heart of Story and Song. Such a privilege to spend the evening with each of you 🙏🏼.

TONIGHT!

Join us for Harp & Sol’s performance in Park Rapids tonight at 7:30!

Here’s some pics of delight from last night in Fosston. It was so heartening seeing how excited the young folk were when asked to be a part of the play, and even brought their stuffed spiders to be a part of it too!

Tonight we take the play to the Armory in Park Rapids, possibly the *best* venue for live music in Northern Minnesota. Imagine hearing a solo violin in a cathedral, without having to drive to the Cities. That's what it will sound like tonight 🤤✨🎻❤️‍🔥
