Another week of has come and gone, and I find myself reflecting and rejoicing on this amazing week. This year was filled with great moments to cherish. Shaunte and myself are this year’s Gold Medallion honorees, which honors individuals that have made extraordinary contributions to the teaching/producing of theatre, and services of ACTF. I reunited with , my mentor from the Kennedy Center and , respondent to my SDC scene way back in 2018. I worked alongside to run our region’s ASPIRE Arts Leadership program, as we mentored young students in the field of Arts Administration. And right before running our 58th Conference, I helped run URTA’s Auditions in Fullerton— bringing together our sister organizations later in the week with students looking for graduate school opportunities with and Sara Ross.

Thank you Jeremy Lewis, my mentor, friend and fearless Chair of Region 8, and our executive team , Melody Gunter, , and . I am so humbled to receive this award and do this work, but the greatest honor is working with so many wonderful artists and reuniting with friends/colleagues near and dear to my heart.

🌎 • 🎭 • ☀️

As much as I love creating art and sharing stories with audiences, what truly makes the field of theatre so extraordinary is the people. Theatre is built on the resilience and generosity of some of the kindest, hardest-working, most brilliant souls you could ever meet. It thrives because of the storytellers, the truth-speakers, and the dreamers.

They can take our buildings, they can challenge our institutions—but they will never break our spirit. Because theatre is not just a place: it is us. Artists—our hearts beat as one.

Happy World Theatre Day!

Hi Everyone,

It’s with a heavy heart that I am announcing that my beloved uncle Isai Vasquez passed away this last Friday. If you didn’t know who Isai was: he was kind, generous, active, loving, God-fearing man who helped raise me. Unfortunately he did not make any arrangements himself for his passing— so my family and I are asking for donations for his burial.

Any amount helps, and we greatly appreciate it. There are other resources or ways to donate— or you may follow the link in my bio or contact me directly if you would like to help. Please donate and/or pass this along.

Thank you and God bless.

-Abel
