*I should preface this by saying I’m talking about doing art as a career path. If you’re a hobbist (and ain’t nothing wrong with that), you should probably ignore everything underneath this sentence.
When artists think of jumping out on their own to become a full-time self employed pro, most whimper away from the idea because of the risks. There are risks of course in clawing your way to your dream but there’s risks in not doing it too.
I’d argue there’s risk to staying at a job you can’t stand (I can vouch for that one), risk in your employer crumbling, risk to your health, risk in watching opportunities gallup away, risk in not building your confidence and self-reliance. There’s risk to everything.
The question to ask yourself is do you want to take on the risk of doing your art, or the risk the comes with not doing it?
