Dmitri Carter is a second-generation puppeteer with Carter Family Marionettes, and he currently serves as the director of Northwest Puppet Center in Seattle. He has performed around the world including shows at Sansoucci Palace Theatre in Potsdam, Uzbek National Puppet Theatre in Tashkent and New Victory Theatre in New York. For over a decade, Dmitri has focused on teaching puppet-carving masterclasses and curating exhibits that draw from the vast collections at Northwest Puppet Center.
Bradford Clark, a Professor of Theatre at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, has traveled and researched puppetry in India, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Russia, and Japan, where he studied with Imada Ningyo and carver Makimoto Toshisuke. For Atlanta’s Center for Puppetry Arts, he served as curator for the Worlds of Puppetry Museum. He directed a Balinese-inspired Tempest, and his original puppet productions include Monkey Storms Heaven, Frankenstein, and The Magnificent Baron Munchausen. He has published in Asian Theatre Journal, Puppetry International, Theatre Design & Technology, Puppetry Yearbook, The Puppetry Journal, and Sutradhar.
Skye Strauss is an Assistant Professor at Jacksonville State University in Alabama. She completed her PhD at Northwestern University with a dissertation winning the UNIMA-USA Staub Award for excellence in writing on puppetry. Her research spans design, scenography, and puppetry to highlight how materiality affects performance creation –“how objects tell stories.” Her writing has been featured in TD&T, Puppetry International, and PAJ. She edits book reviews for Puppetry International Research and reviews for the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival. When not lecturing, she is making magical things – puppets!
