The 2026 Composer Collective wraps up this weekend with brand-new chamber music by Billy Waldman (), Christian Yom (.yom), Jihwan Yoon (), Mateja Nikolić (.n_), and Sina Karachiani (.karachiani.music):

We’re always a little sad when Composer Collective comes to an end. But sending these composers out into the world with a new piece in hand is a pretty great consolation prize.

This year’s Composer Collective brought together Billy Waldman (), Christian Yom (.yom), Jihwan Yoon (), Mateja Nikolić (.n_), and Sina Karachiani (), with participants hailing from Silicon Valley, Serbia, Korea, Cambridge, and our own backyard here in LA.

After weeks of writing, workshopping, rehearsing, revising, and generally living inside the process, it’s time for the best part: the world premieres.

Season 17 tickets are officially for everyone.

Salastina Members have had first crack for the past week. As of today, the whole season is up for grabs.

We kick things off September 12, with concerts in Pasadena, West LA, Palos Verdes, and Orange County. And this season has a little bit of everything:

🎸 A world premiere guitar quintet with Grammy winner Jason Vieaux
💘 A Valentine’s edition of Brian Lauritzen’s Sounds Mysterious
🎻 Bach and Handel in conversation
🏛️ A narrative-driven trip through mythology
🕵️ A Sherlock Holmes Musical Escape Room
🎭 And another delightfully strange adventure with Bob Baker Marionette Theater

West LA friends: we heard you. Thanks to generous support from Barbara Herman and Ann Petersen, we’re moving into more comfortable and accessible venues this season, including the UCLA Nimoy Theater, the Wende Museum, and the Moss Theater at New Roads.

Coming to more than one? Packages are back, from Main Series and Happy Hours to the glorious Whole Shebang. Livestream packages are available too, for those joining us from the couch.

A little Fly On The Wall glimpse into Composer Collective Workshop No. 1 🎶

Over two days this week, composers Billy Waldman, Mateja Nikolić, Jihwan Yoon, and Christian Yom joined Salastina’s Resident Artists to workshop brand new pieces under the mentorship of composer Derrick Skye. These sessions are where ideas get tested, questions get asked, textures shift, rhythms evolve, and music slowly becomes more fully itself.

One of our favorite things about Composer Collective is how collaborative the process is. The room is full of curiosity, experimentation, generosity, and a lot of listening.

Thank you to our Members who joined us behind the scenes for Fly On The Wall and got to witness new music taking shape in real time.

The chamber ensemble's April 25 program paired Robert Schumann's beloved piano quintet with a historical rediscovery and a premiere.

There’s something especially joyful about watching a story come to life in more than one way at once.

On May 2nd, Salastina is teaming up with Bob Baker Marionette Theater for an afternoon where live music and handcrafted puppetry share the stage. Together, we bring Munro Leaf’s gentle classic Ferdinand the Bull and Sergei Prokofiev’s beloved Peter and the Wolf to life in Bob Baker's retro, red theater in Highland Park.

In between adventures, kids and curious grown-ups can get hands-on with an instrument petting zoo. After the show: ice cream for everyone.

The 1:30 PM performance includes a special guest, Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), who brings her signature wit, warmth, and theatrical sparkle to each story's narration.
